Just watching Chris Harris on YouTube about the bloodhound project. Really fascinating, and well worth watching.

:thumbsup Such cool engineering. Just getting your head round some of the issues like having to slow down and intercool the intake air for the 500bhp+ petrol engine used to run a fuel pump ...... staggering.

Oh and a combined power output of 135,000bhp equivalent just mind blowing. I for one wish them every success :thumbsup

they have a cool facebook page with amazing engineering. You should see the amount of work they have done just to get the desert ready for the run.

It's a great FB page. Great to follow the project. Really looking forward to when it starts running.

One of the pilots at Perth has an engineering firm which is involved in this project and he arranged for the full sized model and all the ancillary stuff to come up to the airfield for a club day. There were 2 massive transporters and half a dozen engineers to set it all up. There was a "driver simulator" where you got to try your hand at steering it as it went from 0-1000mph in 55 secs. I crashed it. Every time!! :(

No, a company called Merlin ERD who are actually an oil drilling consultancy. I am not sure of the link up between the two things tho. The MD flys a Spitfire replica at Perth.
