Yeah, many different revisions of the specification, changing transfer modes and addressing. It will be a problem with the filesystem though, probably only necessary to pop a partition on the device that's small enough to use the FAT12 layout.

Created a 512Mb partition today and formatted it FAT, didn't work I have left it with nightshift as they have more time on their hands.

512MB is too big for old skool filesystems - try less than a 32Mb partition and force a fat12 filesystem if you can.

1.44MByte is the size of the floppy, so I would create a partition of that size ... or actually, no partition at all - mtools on Linux can just format the start of the device with any (no matter how inappropriate) file system, including FAT12
