Short break 2-3 hours drive max? (Glasgow)

Post by Jamie_84 » Sun Jan 25, 2015 8:50 pm

Im sure Ive seen threads similar but couldn't find anything, you folk are usually in the know with this stuff..

Wifes 30th next month..Looking for somewhere for a few nights, not too far, could stretch to Glencoe etc.

Really luxurious, quiet retreat with pool/spa. No budget. Any suggestions ?

Cameron house on loch Lomand.

When we went we got a deal/offer on a junior suite with wine on arrival, and included dinner and breakfast, it was around the £300/night mark but I think our dinner bill was £120 for two, And the breakfast was mega! It was good value for money and a lovely place!

The junior suite or the feature rooms are the ones to have, the rooms are very nice. Plenty of on site things to do and things nearby. The only thing is if you want to eat in the main restaurant I think you have to book it before your stay as it was fully booked when we went and we ended up eating in the boathouse, still very nice but more fish choices on the menu than meat.

The spa was also very good quite big and surprisingly not all that expensive.

If you get access to the Carrick spa with a stay at Cameron House, that is a great shout; the rooftop hot tub is brilliant.

Cameron House is nice, IIRC is supposed to be 5* but not sure I 100% agree with that rating. Was there with the wife and kids (family room) a couple of years back , family rooms wont be as nice as the junior suite i guess. Pool was ok but seen better to be honest. Food is excellent, couple of other places to eat close by too.

This is where I've decided to take the wife in 2 weeks time. I'll just drive down, that way she'll think we're taking a flight from Newcastle until we drive past hahahaha

I chose this as most of the hotels I looked at were an extra £16.95 each for breakfast and cost much the same for just a room... Here we will have a seperate bedroom, livingroom, kitchen and bathroom so getting far more for my cash. I'm happy to make breakfast and we'll eat out for lunch and dinner.

York itself has lots to see and do during the day to keep us entertained and a wee pub at night will be sufficent at my age lol...

P.S we did Cammeron House last March.. If you want spa treatments book well in advance as nothing available if you try and book while there and the SPA where the treaments are done is off site! there is a small gym pool sauna and steamroom on site. it was nice but not blow your socks off nice, the bar was relaxing and dinner was great!
