the bedroom tax abolishment - the SNP didnt even all go down and vote on that.
honestly, they dont care about people or policies, they care about winning popular vote for their agenda - whether its by scaring the Scots into "once in a lifetime" vote on independence, or other such tripe.

I don't know - everyone is allowed their opinion, whether or not you can agree with it, or even think it is rational.
If the SNP get a big majority at the next Scottish election and they campaign on the basis of seeking a second independence referendum or similar, then it's fair enough, is it not?
I think the big drop in the oil price will make it harder to sell it on economic terms, but then it should never really have been about just money anyway.
I voted No this time and very likely will do the same next time, but some of the debate was positive so not all bad. I agree with Alex Salmond that the house of lords should really be dismantled.
Anyway, it's kind of hard to deny the people - in the end, if there is a majority in favour of independence, then it will come.

I voted yes this time, given another referendum I'm not sure how I'd vote, but I'd probably vote Yes again.
There's no way folk are going to move on, whichever side of the fence they are on, unless they see change. The best you can do is to create a situation where a significant majority feel they have been helped.
I think the arguments around the House of Lords are hilarious, I mean really, in this day and age. There are what, 10% women in fact until literally this week there were seats that only men could hold! The vast majority live in London or the SE.
I've heard it said that a political upper house wouldn't be an improvement, but only by those who don't understand how politics works. It is a political house, it's just very hard to get itn, and impossible if you aren't rich.
The way out of this is not to wish it away, but to recognize that if you have 45% of the population disenfranchised enough to vote for independence the the powers that be need to stop mocking them and start taking their concerns seriously.
So why not try? Abolish the upper house. Introduce PR.
Hell I'd vote for that. Probably.

It is common for MPs on opposing sides to pair off. Not sure in this case, but perhaps the four that didn't vote paired off with four conservatives who also did not vote.

Re: Fcuk off Alex.
WRT to another referendum, I wish the SNP would bugger off now, they have had their go at it, and lost. Accept it and go. They are so short sighted they can not see that the referendum brought political uncertainty to the country which had a negative effect on business and property prices. If they insist on running more referendums every time they fail, they will keep the political uncertainty going which means the whole country will suffer. I would like to see a business body (FSB for example) take legal action to block the SNP from bringing another referendum within an unreasonable period of time - like 25 years.
Re: Fcuk off Alex.
Inclined to agree with this. Immediately after the referendum I thought that was the end of any possibility of independence, at least for a generation. Not so sure now. The genie seems to be well and truly out the bottle. Who would have predicted the huge surge in support for the SNP after a No vote. I wouldn't bet against another referendum inside the next decade.thinfourth wrote:Scotland will be independent within a decade

It is democracy
Re: Fcuk off Alex.
Whether you like them or not, the fact is that SNP had a clear democratic mandate for the referendum. It was central to their manifesto for the last Scottish parliamentary elections. If they win an overall majority again, and it is in their manifesto again, they will have a democratic mandate to have another one. A lot of people won't like it, including no doubt a lot of people in business who obviously dislike the uncertainly a referendum brings, but that is how democracy works and there is absolutely didly squat chance of any legal challenge being successful. Not making the case on either side of the argument, but that is how it is.Dominic wrote: I would like to see a business body (FSB for example) take legal action to block the SNP from bringing another referendum within an unreasonable period of time - like 25 years.
Re: Fcuk off Alex.
The SNP will have another referendum in their manifesto. If they win, which is pretty much guaranteed at the moment with the disarray in the other parties, they intend having another referendum in 2016.

Re: Fcuk off Alex.
The difference this time is that the UK government has a mandate (the referendum itself) not to allow it. No for five year minimum, 10 years maybe.j2 lot wrote:The SNP will have another referendum in their manifesto.
