Shocking Motorcyclist crash.
Shocking Motorcyclist crash.
The suddenness is so shocking. Absolutely horrible for everyone involved.
After a few close calls and considering my two very young children at the time, I hung up my boots and bought an Elise.

similar when cycling when younger - I would have cars approaching me overtaking another car.Shug wrote:...I can ensure I can see the whites of their eyes to make sure they're looking at me...
I would STARE at their eyes, not so much that they would see me or not (coz either they didnt or they ignored me)..
... but more for they would forever remember me looking at them if they hit me...
pretty nasty on my part, but only damned thing u can do when a nutter in a metal box overtakes another metal box.
the actual impact of that vid was so quick. shocking indeed

Horrible accident and all in a split second. As above, the very reason I will not get a bike for road use. I have people turn across me when I'm driving my van, sadly most people can't see/don't look much beyond the end of their bonnet.
Big respect to the family for releasing the clip, even if it makes one biker think a bit more like Shug when approaching similar junctions, or if it makes one driver actually look down the road, it will be worth their decision.

Re: Shocking Motorcyclist crash.
Put my hi viz on this morning after seeing that.
Have to say though, as a motorcyclist for over 25yrs I do think that the biker in the video wasn't giving himself much chance with the speed he was travelling at, didn't look like the right kind of road for that speed.
Fact is though that people just don't look properly, especially car drivers who have plenty going on in the car to distract them. The governments non stop attack on speed being the culprit doesn't help. There's so many drivers around these days that have been brainwashed in to thinking whatever they do is 'safe' as long as they're not speeding.
Better training and re-testing is the only thing that'll improve matters.

Re: Shocking Motorcyclist crash.
Really harrowing video, as said before well done to the family involved for releasing in the hope it changes some behaviours.
Can see arguments for both sides but regardless of blame it's ultimately a tragic accident that will haunt everyone involved, directly and indirectly.
As a biker, I must admit I'm constantly convinced cars haven't seen me and sadly it's regularly the case, one of the reasons I don't actually enjoy riding that much and will likely be selling my bike shortly.

Truly shocking clip, Clio driver has clearly made an awful mistake but there is a time and place for excessive speed and this was quite obviously neither. I have the utmost sympathy with the rider and his family but going by the short clip, his was a danger to himself and other road users.
As described in previous posts, it's fairly easy to not see a bike in certain lights so I guess the biker must always ride with the utmost caution as Shug mentioned.
I had a carbon Grey Elise and whenever I drove behind my girlfriend in an X5 she had no idea I was there as the she couldn't see me in her rear view mirror, she told me on many occasions that she worried that other road users wouldn't see me either which was a bit of a worry.
I've always fancied getting a bike but never got one; I'm sure I'd be sensible enough to ride within my capabilities, the only thing that prevented me getting one was my mistrust of other road users.

Re: Shocking Motorcyclist crash.
A very similar thing happened to my Dad, although like Bigd he managed to get round the back of the car, but not before he clipped it with his leg causing a compound complicated fracture that left him in plaster for 11 months and caused an injury that still troubles him 50 years later. My parents ended up getting married with him in plaster. For that reason I was not allowed a bike. When I was old enough I got my bike licence but through what had been hammered into me for years any the pain that it clearly caused my Mum to think of me on a bike I got the Elise instead. 4 whelks don't fall over. She did also say that if I got a bike she would get a hammer and meticulously smash every bit of it although she didn't.
If you're not living on the edge you're wasting too much space!
