Another" Which hotel should i go for a short break" thread

Post by H8OAG » Mon Jul 21, 2014 8:00 pm

A lazy question to hopefully elicit some good suggestions.
The current Mrs Boag wants to go away for this weekend.

Some open top driving
Scenery
Nice Hotel/Guest House
Food
Maybe the odd glass of wine

Scotland preferably.......but would cross Hadrian's wall for something interesting

Thanks in anticipation

:cheers

Hey there,

Me and the wife did exactly what you are planning to do last weekend.

We booked into the macdonald hotel in Aviemore. We arrived on Thursday evening and left on Saturday afternoon. The hotel was fantastic and the food was extremely good. Albeit a bit pricey. On the 1st night we went to the hotels steak house which is 2 miles away from the hotel but there is a courtesy bus. Excellent steaks and a good choice of red wine. Okay 9.50 for a large glass but nice for a treat.

The weather was excellent on the Friday so went to the wildlife park and drove the Lotus round the range. Was advised to put the roof on just incase there were any byson or camel's who decided to take a closer look in the car.

We live in Aberdeen so I headed towards Ballater then went over the A939 "I think" anyway headed to Aviemore via the Lecht which was a good run and sunshine all the way. Good road with the exception of the sheep.

Hope you enjoy your weekend wherever you go.

Danny

Try Edwnwater House near Kelso.

Haven't been there for a while but it's run by Jeff and Jacqui Kelly who used to own Kelly's in Edinburgh years ago.

Lovely place, stunning, fantastic food and some awesome roads.

Highly recommended but last went about 4/5 years ago.

I would second G's vote for the Torridon, plus you get access to this:

They even serve porridge with a dram of Talisker for the morning after.

The http://www.summerisleshotel.com/ also gets a good write up, but we didn't make it that far north on our last trip.

The Torridon is ace, with plenty to do (namely the Applecross pass a few times before she is awake!)

My other suggestion and we really enjoyed it was Applecross Inn, we stayed for 2 nights, sampled a lot of food and a lot of wine, and a lot of whisky! Rooms very clean and to a high enough standard, but very comfy and very quiet.

I also have a secret little hideaway which i suspect will be fully booked, but cheap as chips and stunning! (Will PM it to you)

:thumbsup At £550 if Mrs B is up for it, then do it! Room probably equates to about £150 for the night once you add on the hookers and coke? :P

You could try Kinloch Lodge on Skye , food great rooms great and some nice roads or pool house at Poolewe , haven't made that yet ,or for something a little more cosy the Glenelg inn .
