Replacing the nose badge on an s2 Elise

Looking to replace the nose badge on my S2, it's faded as most of the plastic types appear to do in time. The S1 badge appears to be better quality and enamel so wondering if that would be a better option? The best price I could find for the plastic OEM replacement is £53 and I can get an enamel S1 badge on eBay for £15...

Is there any issues preventing the S1 badge from fitting straight on with a bit of 3M sticky stuff? The S1 badge appears to be bolted on although the s2 badge also has the pins for alignment, so I'm thinking it will be the same other than the concave shape which I recon a layer or two of 3M in the middle would flatten it out enough for good adhesion.

:shock: After paying close to £100 for mine I used little tiger seal to make sure it doesn't come off. That ebay one is super cheap! If it's genuine, buy it now or regret it....Not sure if classic badges are differnet sizes to modern ones? You'd need to remove the threaded pins carefully too.

I was under the impression from reading a few forums the s2 also has the two holes in the clamshell so there would be no need to remove the threaded pins on the badge?

Might just opt for the plastic badge if that's the case.

I've not seen under an S2 badge so someone else will need to confirm that. :-)

S2 badges aren't bolted they usually have 2 lugs to locate the badge straight on the claim but just a stick on job.

Is the S1 badge flat on the bottom? Something tells me it's not, though I can't remember.

I've run a 10 quid non-genuine eBay one for the past 5 or so years, just replaced it as it was getting pretty faded (black and silver enamel one) - can't complain for a tenner, though for the price I'm tempted to pick one up and go back to proper Lotus colours!

The seller also has a pair of Timken wheel bearings for 20 quid each (plus 4 p&p) which is a pretty decent price - 45 quid EACH + p&p at Elise parts!

I'd order them, but already have a couple of spares!

I have a habit of finding out that parts can be had for cheaper after I've bought them. :-( must ask on here more often.. :-)

I'm on my second 15 quid eBay badge. The first one rusted where the threaded sections are welded on behind the badge and it blew away on the m90

So finally got the time to fit the new badge, an enamel s1 type. Basically, snapped off the two bolts on the new badge as they were not the same width as the holes on the clamshell and didn't want to start drilling new holes and mess up the car body. Built up a few layers of strong double sided foam to flatten off the curve of the new badge and it stuck down a treat. Getting the old badge off was a case of dental floss pulled side to side to break the old sticky pad then a bent butter knife carefully slid under the badge with a cloth underneath it to protect the paintwork and off it popped with a little leverage.

Big improvement on the old faded badge! :mrgreen:
