Interesting

I'll sell you a straight VX chassis with ID, a 2 Eleven body, a set of wishbones & hubs & a 1.8T Audi engine & box with Kev's CNC mounts for £8k!

I knew a friend who used the donor car chassis number on a kit car which meant it went onto the original cars reg. This was many years ago, but it came under 'reshelled' as far as modifications were concerned and sumitted changes under the V5 to get the details more aligned to what it was. Made things significantly easier than SVA or IVA. Examples I've known that went through IVA were apparantly a massive pain in the arse.

Read that, all interesting stuff, don't really know much about the background, not much of a diy guy compared to lots of you guys, an S2 owner and (ok to say here but not on SELOC) more a fan of the s2 front end rather than the S1 BUT I think any 340r looks ace both front and back and mental really love the looks and shape of it, drove Colin's 340r at Achmelvich, wasnt in the best state at that time, but loved the looks, front end feel, grip and Honda power although to be honest a bit of a fan of the k-series so a VPHD must be much be so nicer so just rebuild it doing what you want never mind this low mileage = great depreciation = high value dilemma, know that isn't Craig but still keep it as close to original 340r as possible but do what you want and enjoy it.
So get on it on the road basically !

This is exactly what Id like to do, basically take a damaged elsie and re-chassis it with the 340 unit. Cant see why this would be an issue except that lotus did not give it a chassis number.

The chassis has been in my workshop for the last 5-6 years and nothing been done, its constantly looking at me. Ive got the chance of a cat d elise, it was repaired and used but then dismantled for a rebuild. This would come in at the right money but means taking a road legal elise and basically writing it off, doesnt seem right.
