Soft Paint

Post by C7Steve » Wed Jun 04, 2014 9:14 am

Simon,

I was in the middle of writing a response, then noticed that you had deleted your post.

I thought that Lotus cars were a medium hardness of paint unlike German marques, as per Polished Bliss info. They suggested using Menzerna 203s then 85re.

How did you notice that the paint was soft? Was it that the swirl marks/paint defects polished out too quickly?

Hi Steve,
Thanks for posting, was told that detailing isn't that popular on here so deleted my post

I'm a big fan of polished bliss and also thought that lotus paint was in the medium hardness category but it just seems to mark/chip so easily. I used the menzerna as per their recommendation and the appropriate pads and while it got rid of most swirls it never seemed to finish down properly and left some very light fresh marks behind. (Making me think paint is soft)

I'm pretty keen on detailing (also like using my cars too I'd like to point out!) and worked on all different paint types and not had this issue before. Only thing I can think is that my products might have been frozen/gone off during winter so I will try again with fresh products and see how it goes I think.

:withstupid

I have always found the paint on various Loti to be ok although the protective films obviuosly help. Merc we had a couple of years ago was absolutely horrendous for paint chips - far, far worse than any other car we've ever had and we only had it 2 years from new. :?

There are some who only ever drive, never wash their cars,.. then there are some who only ever wash / polish their cars and never drive. Most do both in varying degrees of commitment and success. Each to their own.

I was just a bit hasty and removed my post from the car care section. Was Mike (scib4) that said there's not much interest in cleaning cars on here so I guess my first mistake was listening to him, should have known better by now!

Going to review my gear and technique and see if I can get the results I want but for now I just want to enjoy driving it!

Don't recall saying to delete your post :?

I did however say that I don't think anyone will know as I could not think of anyone who done detailing on SE.
