Driveway gates

Post by Sanjøy » Mon Apr 21, 2014 7:21 pm

Anyone have any contacts for driveway gates? Not decided if sliding it traditional opening ones are the best fit.

Child friendliness is obviously paramount.

Tia.

I looked into this ages ago - you can get a GSM unit so you can open them with your phone. Which I liked.
I got a price from a Glasgow blacksmith (just off South Street) who was stupidly cheap for gates themselves (like under 500 quid). But then I started worrying about a self install after some story in the newspaper about a child getting trapped and dieing so I never did anything.

A long way of saying a local blacksmith might be very cheap. (He was about 20% of the price of a specialist for supply only).

I've got a GSM unit (not working properly at the moment I should add) but you can call ahead and have it open for arrival when functioning (had it powered down for 4 weeks after my father-in-law decided to open the gates manually and broke the industrial strength chain!!)

Its pretty good. We liked it because you can set it to call your mobile if you arent in, and the change isnt noticable - so you could open to allow courier entrance for parcel drop-off etc.

Still waiting on the gate chaps coming back to fix the photocell sensors that automatically open the gate for exiting.

Hugely frustrating when they go wrong is the only downside, but definately makes the place safer for Charlotte running around.
