Going by deroure pricing a new clam is 2.5k +VAT so over half the cost. They've then got to prep and paint it plus removal and refitting so I can see how they get to £5600.

Is the car drivable at the moment? If the clam comes off and isn't repairable you'll not be able to use the car until a new clam arrives, unless they refit it again which just adds to the labour cost. How long a guarantee do you get if you use their repairer and what experience do they have with fibreglass? From what I've heard if it's not prepped and dried properly before painting you could have issues later on with paint blistering.

Are you dealing directly with the third parties insurer? If soIf they won't budge then just tell them you'll be getting an accident management company to deal with your claim and will be driving about in a rented porker until your cars fixed!

Persevere with this till you get the result you want as it could save you more hassle down the line. Willowbrae are very good at what they do so are who I'd be using. Have you got any pics of the damage?

WRT Mitchell Inglis in Glasgow, they repaired my clio 172 (after an eventful rally  ). They did a very good job, but that was over ten years ago, so I'm not sure how they would be now. IIRC they were an official porsche repair centre - maybe worth checking out, as I would think they would need to achieve certain standards to maintain that accolade.

I had our last Passat repaired by them around 4 years ago. As Dom says they did a decent job with no hassles and were a porsche repair centre at that point too

Although it's all very well being an approved repair centre for steel and ally cars like Porsches - but they don't face the challenges of moisture ingress that fibreglass does. So an excellent premium bodyshop might not touch the Elise due to it's material use - or could give an excellent initial finish, which develops paint blisters as soon as the weather turns wet and cold.
