SE Help? Glue/resin/plastic repair

Post by shooomer » Tue Feb 18, 2014 5:05 pm

I have a water valve with a hairline crack and replacement is on 6 week back order. Anyone any advice if I can use something for temporary repair? It's made of Acetal?
Thanks

Always the same, gaffa tape............ :D

Better advice than mine should be available Paul, but as I have some in I would try Metalset as a starter.

For temporary use, I'd go with Denso Tape every time Paul :thumbsup

It was tough to photograph on my phone. I was thinking I could fill the whole circular cavity with some sort of resin? It's only at mains water pressure
thanks :thumbsup

Epoxy resin should do. Just make sure it is clean, dry and keyed before you cover it

I would cut a metal or plastic disc same circumference as the out side and bond it on with stickaflex
the stickaflex should seal the hole and the disc would spread the load and seal at the same time
mains pressure from a tiny hole is quite a lot

I'd just mix up some araldite then pour it in to that handy little hollow there and leave it to set.
Would be worth trying to put a jubilee clip on to help hold it all together, hard to tell from the picture if that's doable though.
