RIP BT
Re: RIP BT
I just thought it was down to to the success of the bundled deal? For a long time it seemed every other job I was doing was for Sky. Many many customers with the same overall capacity?
Kept me nice and busy.
I'd probably have Sky too but my exchange is a shed in the corner of a park beside my house and I've no chance of LLU or fibre.

ps:- PlusNet always used to come out on top of the ISP's along with Zen, yet they are offering unlimited BB for £2.50/month for twelve months.
Surely that is a no brainer?

Re: RIP BT
Plusnet upped their customer base not long ago in a big way. Apparently they were struggling but are getting back to normal. Good deal but they are owned by BT. Operate as an independent entity though.

Re: Re: RIP BT
We definately suffered growing pains at the start and we bought easynet and then increased the customer base by a ridiculous amount. However that was years ago. We have the capacity, I get 11meg in my flat with no issues...... The only customers that have speed problems use bt lines and BT kit.CubanGav wrote:I just thought it was down to to the success of the bundled deal? I work for one of those crazy companies.CubanGav wrote:I've had decent reports on Tooway Satellite. A few companies doing it these days. Set up cost can be high but if you aren't paying out to have a landline installed it's offset. It's useless for anything relying on latency/ping so If the kids are looking to gaming online forget it. I know plenty people using it in non broadband areas and it works very well. No problem working from home and accessing a work server or remote desktop type use. You will be charged based on what bandwidth you need but silly speeds are possible.

In terms of connection stats you are looking at 600ms-800ms latency on the line and a connection speed of 17Mbps (download) and 2Mbps (upload).
In reality if you are prepared to accept a short delay when loading a website then it works well. The biggest complaint seems to be when you are Googling and accessing several websites in short period of time as there is a noticeable delay when accessing each site from the search results. As said – forget it for games etc.
In terms of VOIP I have a customer that runs 5 IP phones over the Tooway connection – it works fine in regard to call quality but again the latency can cause minor issues – it’s a bit like calling someone abroad to some extent. You really have the option of running the call (say skype) over a poor quality ADSL\ADSL2+ line and the quality will be jittery and perhaps drop the call in comparison to the Tooway connection which has a delay on the voice traffic but is much more stable.
HTH anyone considering a satellite connection

RIP BT
BT wires and talk talk phone and DSL here for the last 3 years. Have had some line faults and all sorted quickly and with little fuss. Unlimited and good speeds for my location. Satisfied customer.
If I was a business in Edi or Gla I would be looking use Mssr Ford Jnr for his unbundled sdsl or Ethernet unbundled products supported with a local touch.

Re: RIP BT
I was with Talk Talk and a couple of times it went wrong and trying to get it sorted was a nightmare, was ok until it went wrong. I'll never use Talk Talk again even if it cheapest. In the 2 years with them we got cut service off twice due to lack of payment even though we paid on time as their payment system 'didn't always work' according to them even after conversations and assurances over the phone it wouldn't be a problem. I also accidentally paid to the wrong part of Talk Talk once and had to explain how payment systems work to them as they had no ideacampbell wrote: As for TalkTalk, two sets of my inlaws have it and when it's working it's OK but any issue takes ages to resolve. I also believe our own Robin had some very disappointing experiences with them despite providing practically all of the diagnostics they needed to sort the issue out at a very deep technical level (as you'd expect...!) Robin can explain more if need be...

no throttling, no filtering, NOTHING and real people on the end of the phone if it all goes pear shaped.
that said, they are not the cheapest...
I have been with zen for 10 years now, only ever had one outage (pikeys stole BT cable!), never had any technical issues, service is about as good as it get's, and I am in a rural environment on a remote concentrator exchange.
Re: RIP BT
A whole thread for £3.50
Even if you go with some other company for your broadband the line is still owned by BT so RIP BT is impossible.

But they are forced to use BT or whatever they are called lines and they are having huge issues fixing our phone line
