I havwe had good customer experiences and am happy to continue to use Lloyds, Halifax and BOS, whereas I would rather burn my money than give any of it to RBOS to look after
Maybe I have been lucky but the league tables probably dont lie in that you are more likely to suffer at the hands of those lower down the list.

Just last week I wrote a complaint to the new TSB as I had gone in to pay some cash and was bombarded by "Do you want a TSB credit card to replace your Lloyds one". I told them I don't use it at which point she said "Well you may want to put some Xmas presents on it". I thought this is rediculous, back to the debt fuelled booms and busts then! Do banks not realise that if they actually provide a good service they would be better for it? Clearly not.

This was while there was a massive queue to be served and surely getting that dealt with should be number one priority.

Anyway long story short I wrot a complaint specifically letting them know that I wasn't after compensation but wanted to inform them of such poor service.

They called and offered £25 at which I said I didn't want their money but I would give it to charity.

So I went into the British Heat Foundation shop next to the branch and gifted the £25. Not much I know but at least someone will benefit from it............... Probably me when I get my first heat attack! :?

 Are they so terrified of doing badly that they offer money (hush money? Didnt work you told us  or was it a consultancy fee for the business advice you gave them :damnfunny ) to get rid of complaints????????? No wonder they get into difficulties.

Oh and good on you for giving it to charity :thumbsup

As a result of this thread I trotted off to look at the First Direct "1st Account" - unfortunately it costs 15/month and pays 0 interest, though they do have an attached savings account that pays 6% but you cannot actually put in more than 3,600/year to that.

So Santander's 3% on up to 20K for a fee of £2/month beats it for value if not customer service. Of course if you need any of the stuff you get for the 15/month (travel insurance, roadside assistance, VIP membership of the local massage place) then it might make more sense.

Cheers,
Robin

P.S. BigD, pretty sure you had a heat attack on FF; it's a heart attack you're waiting for now ;-)

The First Direct's 1st Account is free (as long as you pay at least £1k/month into it), it's their "First Directory" account that costs £15/month.

BigD = Ninja Fingas.

As to first direct 1st account not having a 15 pound fee - that's not very clear on the website - thanks for pointing it out.

Cheers,
Robin

Another vote for First Direct - Great service.. I'm sure they were paying people £100 to join them recently..

Actually I forgot we also run a couple of First Direct accounts, for bills and er the Elise Fund!

Think I wanted to put the business account there, they have been so easy to deal with (~14 years now), but they don't do those. Boo.
