Murray on Senna

Post by campbell » Sat Oct 12, 2013 11:36 pm

Muzza's 90th birthday tributes this weekend.

Just watching the BBC interview by James Allen. Murray spoke about trying to commentate on Senna's accident and feared death. I found this on YouTube as a result. No Murray on it. Just a brutal reminder...

Think that's a clip from the Senna film Campbell. Also think it might be on TV tonight?

Don't remember seeing that clip before, and my first thought was that he would have just walked away from that today, but seems that he would have anyway if the suspension unit had not gone through his helmet.

Very sad to watch, especially when you saw his head move slightly before the medics got there.

Remember seeing that live as it was happening with my gran, when his head moved that little bit, I thought that was it for him. The camera and helicopter crews were intent on filming it.
One of those moments, you knew you shouldn't be watching, but couldn't look away.
Wasn't that different from massa spring incident, there is only so much a helmet can do.

Even though I watched with concentration at the Belmont cinema showing we went to, I forgot about the number of crashes that weekend - 5 people involved in serious crashes.

Two things struck me last night - Senna's last move of his helmet and Jean Marie Balestre's old-style french leadership.

Great film.
