Can anybody shed any light on that - sounds like BS to me - I think you have 7 days to produce, assuming they can be bothered to give you the relevant ticket? DVLA already know whether or not you have a license, unless they don't know who you are, in which case they won't know that the license you gave them was somebody else's ...

Cheers,
Robin
Must be BS. When I was stopped recently for being over the speed limit (bloody motorway 50 limit but no complaints, I was over the limit) I didn't have my license and the gents expalined that they didn't need it as it is all computerised now anyway so a quick call-in and confirmation of my existing 3 points and they were happy. Also I didn't pull in for quite a while but when I did and got out apologised for not stopping sooner but explained that I was waiting for the slip road to pull in as I deemed it safer than in a Police car only layby (no hard shoulder). I was going off at the slip anyway. :thumbsup

Many moons ago I was t-boned by a police car on a roundabout while my drivers licence was off at the DVLA I had to produce my licence within 7 days. It hadn't returned as it had been held up on medical grounds I applied for an extension then lost the bit of paper. Detectives appeared at the door and told my parents I didn't have a licence they had checked with the DVLA. Phoned the DVLA and next day and medical bloke on the other side of the phone said "they are full of sh*t, they haven't checked. It's sitting in front of me and is going out in tonights post". I tried to hand it in but without the paperwork I had to leave a message for the officer at the front desk. Never heard anything back.

Aye, it sounded a bit spurious, but I wasn't for starting a debate on the matter.

I disagree about the last bit. No need to be rude or a smart arse but there should be absolutely no problem asking them to clarify the fine part ... of course if they haven't noticed your four bald tires then maybe you just want to be on your way ;-)

Fair point, Robin: nothing wrong with a bit of debate when you smell a whiffy argument, but with my tax disc in the post, a potentially offensive weapon and a seemingly random number plate on the passenger seat, it just didn't seem the best course. I had stuff to do that day!

(Plus, if you've seen my shed, I could probably have got done for the horrific paint job/interior alone. DDTB has nothing on that  )
