Selling My Merc E350 Coupe Sport

Post by greido » Wed Sep 25, 2013 11:59 pm

Hi,

I'm in the process of selling my Mercedes E350cdi Sport Coupe but getting very little interest, it's advertised on here (Didn't expect a response tbh, but thought it was worth a try) and also on Pistonheads.
I've dropped the price tonight and will look at putting it on AutoTrader soon if I get no interest this week, I was wondering your opinions on:
1. The Ad, Is it selling the car enough? http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/ ... ic/1689810
2. Where else would you recommend trying to sell this?
3. Do other people just not buy cars like this this when it's not from a dealer?
4. The price looks like a bargain to me but do you think this is putting people off?

I'd be happy to hear your thoughts and I'm not averse to a bit of constructive criticism!

Cheers,

G

As the car is now over three yrs old, its manufacturers warranty will have expired, unless you extended it.

If you did, stress this on the ad, if not, I'd speak to a dealer about the cost of a MB warranty (not 3rd party), as this would offset the concerns which might be raised for any prospective buyer, due to the very high mileage.

The only obvious issue I can see is the high mileage of 30k a year but there's nothing you can do to change that. The Warranty is a good shout although not sure how much MB would charge on that car.

Mileage will be putting a lot of people off sadly.

If you need a contact at MB Edinburgh, let me know - they'll be able to put you in touch with someone who will give you a good price for it.

Extended MB warranty will be in the region of £1.5k for this car - Might make it easier to sell, but I doubt you'd see any of that back... :(

Milage will be putting people off but also you need to get it on autotrader.

In my experience pistonheads is great for more specialist/ enthusiast stuff but I wouldn't class a diesel Merc as particularly specialist so the vast majority of people who are interested in buying one won't know what pistonheads is and they'll do their browsing on autotrader.

Your car looks good................but will appeal to a very limited market because of the mileage

I am surprised you have not had the Leeds /Bradford types offering you £5k below your asking.............but a couple of potential areas are as follows:-

1) - An airport taxi company who will run Mercs until 400k miles
Or
2) - A private polisher who is not going to drive it much over the next three years................and the mileage will sort itself out

There are also plenty lower mileage cars currently available on the auction circuit that can be bought for the same money.

Give me a call if you cannot shift it....................I underwrite for a garage that exports Mercedes to wealthy Russians based in Cyprus

It would need another couple of doors for that one

Had the wifes' Fiat 500 diesel on Autotrader....expensive waste of time & money.Only responses were scam emails with the usual bollocks about working offshore, send me your Paypal details, etc, etc.Seems all the Nigerian princes now work for a living...in the oil industry!!
Used EBay as a means of advertising the car and did the deal privately, have done this for loads of cars & bikes, works for me eventually.Still get loads of time wasters but simply don't bother answering the " got cash, can pick up tomorrow, what's your best price?" emails
I saw your ad on Pistonheads and it looked a good price but as said mileage is well above average and even now with very reliable modern engineering people find it hard to see past that....naive fools!!
I bought a 5 cylinder Audi years ago at 173K and sold it on at 194K a couple of years later, still running perfectly.....only had one owner before me and he'd looked after it,was a no brainer to me.
I think to make it more tempting to a potential buyer it needs to be a wee bit cheaper but obviously not that cheap that it looks like there's something up with it....Mr Boag'll have a good idea what to price it at.
Hope that's helpful and no- one's offended by my ramblings :D

:-D I think I've got a photo of every car I've owned on 'shaggers lane'. Good spot for a car pic, nice looking motor.

There's a whole load of rules for taxi/private hire vehicles.
One of them is that it must have a minimum of four doors so you can't license a two door vehicle as either.
Vehicle of choice these days is the new Seat Toledo, they're calling it the new Octavia.
I can't see any taxi owner wanting to spend 16k on a 90k mile vehicle when they can buy a new Toledo for not much over £12k.

So I wouldn't bother trying that route.

Thanks everyone for their responses, it's much appreciated.
I've still not had much of a response, just a few 'What's your lowest price' chancers, I reckon I'll stick it on Autotrader next week and see if I get anywhere with that, though, as mentioned above I might just get more scammers.
Boag, thanks for the offer of selling it to Russians in Cyprus... That sounds like an interesting way to go!....... Are you gonna go down that route with your X6?

Cheers,

G
