I hate to critisise, but was KITT not an automatic? (queue shots of self changing shifter and accelerator pedal mashing itself to the floor)

Watched it on love film recently, its utter gash you can see the guy driving it.

It's actually pretty funny. In some early shots, the driver is disguised as the seat back - so it looks like the seat is half folded forward and really, really plush!
