Silverstone Classic

Post by tut » Thu Aug 22, 2013 7:27 pm

Recorded it a few days ago and just watching it.

35 pre 1966 F1 cars from a standing start, lord knows how many millions in value and racing them as if they had stolen them. Won by a Brabham.

Then pre '66 GT cars, the best of the best as it was oversubscribed, racing in torrential rain, won by a lightweight racing E-Type. Then they set a world record with 911 911's driving around the track.

Followed by the big boys, the Classic sports cars with at least six 917's in the mix, touching as they raced alongside each other, even more Lola T70's which just pipped a 917 to first place.

If you have not seen it, try and get a repeat.

ps:- gets even better, Sabine just being interviewed as her boyfriend has bought her a Porsche 962, all 700hp and several £million in value, and she will be racing it after the break. No she won't, Klaus was driving first stint and was just taken out, Sabine in the pits taking her helmet off, a few years since I last met her, but she looks even better than ever.

I recorded it on first showing (ITV4). Was good racing, shame about the Johnathan Legard commentary. There were at least 4 times I was yelling at the TV as he was missing out on key information you could see on the screen. Tim Harvey's Sierra touring car boiling out coolant underneath, which he totally missed and decided that perhaps the car just wasn't fast enough to keep in front of the Super Tourers on the straight - despite having a couple of hundred horsepower potentially in hand over them. Several times coming out with utter nonsense that completely contradicted what was going on on screen!

Just remembered one race, car goes over a massive, obvious line of cement dust, which puffs up as it passes and he comes out with "oh, he's got engine trouble..." Cue every viewer in the UK shouting NO HE F*CKING DOESNT!

Almost completely ruined watching it for me. No understanding of motor racing whatsoever. Thank Christ the Beeb fired him...
