car seats and the rules NLC

Post by r10crw » Mon Jul 22, 2013 3:35 pm

Some of us have a few kids or more, anyone have thoughts about this? With the next arrival on the 20th August we will have 3 kids aging 3 and under, actually 3 yrs 1 month!

We have two baby seats currently but would be tight for another in the middle and that's with an ML. I'm loathed to go down the window licker route but have I got much choice? I saw these,

and thought it was a great idea. The ML really needs changing now and not sure what to get next. I thought C class but she likes an E class estate for the 7 seats but if we went with the above perhaps a little C220cdi would be fine? Happy to spend around the 8K upto the 10K mark but get stressed at anything more.

Any thoughts

Great timing Craig but need a slight delay, Clare is back on the 24th so would be a shame if she missed the birth.

As for the other question, no effing idea.........

Only got two kids but have a Volvo XC90 - the middle seat of the middle row turns into a booster seat and plenty of room either side for car seats. The booster seat makes kids feel like grown ups as the seat is part of the car. It is also a 7 seater but with the bonus that the additional seats are not hard against the tailgate - it actually has a normal sized boot with the back seats up.

One of the journos in evo (John Barker I think) ran one of those things a few years back.

I think it was in the back of an M3 and he raved about it.

I think the E-class would be a pain with a wee one strapped in the very back of it. XC90 possibly similar challenge (though I agree they are great cars). Your three-in-row gadget would make the most sense, IMHO. Once the eldest is big enough for a booster then you can reconsider. With the three-seater kid seat you can pick and choose whatever car you want, e.g. C-class or whatever other estate car (has to be a bigun, though, to get all the buggies and nappies in :-)).

Cheers,
Robin

Congrats Craig. And good luck. On all counts ;-)

Can't help on the seating arrangements. Pair of Recaros all the way for us, never had to worry about shoehorning in a 3rd I'm afraid.

It's great when they get to boosters though. Feels like you car has gained a whole extra row of seats when you finally take the huge sprog seats back out again!

Thanks for the replies folks, and its looking like the multiseat is going to be the way forward with a c class estate. Chalrene really wanted the extra seats but for the 4-5 times per year that they get used I dont think its justifiable.

Cheers Craig.

Yeah, that extra cash could be spent on Lotus stuff instead :-)
