What a machine - as Harris says, very possibly the coolest car of all time. It may be sacrilege for the purists to convert a race car for road use, but I think I'd have to have a Dauer 962 in my fantasy garage

Nope, that's still cool, because after the FIA banned Group C, that Dauer was a clever way for them to go back and win it again with a 10 year old design. Maintain it would make a sh*t road car, but for coolness, I can't fault.
For some Lotus content, how's this to flex the fibres of my anorak: In the vid, you see a brief shot of the front suspension and upright. You know that the Elise method of changing front camber - with shims behind the steering arm so you can change camber without re-doing the toe? That was developed on the 956 and copied by lots of racers after that - bleeding down to our little plastic bathtubs.
Geek level - Ninja.

Wow, that is truly off the scale on the techy geekometer

And I never knew that Dauers were raced.

argh the Force is stong with you today shug

......more lotus content was.... the talk on the downforce ..ground effect ..with f1 was pointing towards lotus in the 70's developing it to great effect with their cars....something the zeegermans were prehaps behind on for once....

Yep - have to correct myself a little, as GpC wasn't yet banned, but they'd penalised the C1 cars so hard that one could not win Le Mans. They were pushing for road going GTs (this was the year before McLaren went and took 5 of the top 6 spots with the F1 GTR) So Dauer argued that as they'd produced a road car (they had, and that was the only qualifying criteria - much abused also in the later years of GT1) that it was a GT. The ACO tried last-minute rule changes to outlaw it, but Dauer just modified the car. LM 1994.
