mini clutch failure and abz suggestions

Post by kerryxeg » Sat Jun 01, 2013 8:43 pm

The mini clutch gave up this afternoon, now waiting on the aa to recover from torphins. So just wondering if it would be best to get it taken to bmw or put it elsewhere in thabz area. Not being experience with recovery I'm not sure if the could deliver it direct anyway given jc are shut.

Suggestions welcome.

I got mine done at AWAutotech, but I wasn't impressed with the work and haven't been back. Westhill Garage have been excellent for normal servicing / consumables so might be worth a shout. I'd avoid main dealer just because its an 8 hour job, so the labour charge will be huge.

Give Central Garage at Glenkindie a shout. Dave Sedgwick looked after my Elise when it was up Alford way.

Don't want to go into detail but I used AW auto tech and they took twice as long as it should have with no good reason.

Good bunch and has of happy customers so I'm sure it was an isolated incident

i would recommend mckenzies in whytemyres. 691818

they should at least quote you the recommended hours from the book and stick to that... would be worth checking the no of hrs and checking that if they go over they won't charge you more.

or

my dad has used crombie motors in Tory for years. the guy in there is really good and resonable

Thanks for the suggestions. I had to make a decision and given that the clutch went at 26k miles thought it best to try through mini. I had a look at a YouTube time lapse of the job and it is a bugger. So hopefully the dealer has methods and tools to do this as efficiently as possible. Their estimate is high but seems to be in the ballpark and they were straight onto the job, so will see how they do.

The recovery was great, aa recovery technically only do one drop which isn't too helpfully when you want to go home and the car want's to go to be fixed. Helpfully a solution was sorted and the car forgot to get off at the initial destination.
