It's fun rather than fast. Coming from the Elise or 911 it doesn't seem all that quick. In 5th and 6th gear you could be driving a van. I suppose what I'm saying is, buy a Porsche.
Plenty of modern day hatchbacks will give even a Porsche 911 a fright, especially an older version

Really paid attention to my drive home last night, looking for good or bad things I could mention here. Gave it some beans too, and it delivered the grin factor again. I think it's a bit better than I gave it credit for. If you set out to enjoy it, it's a more than "OK".
It's compromised when you use it as daily transport (which is all I really do these days) because it's thirsty and impractical, plus I've had a couple of years for the novelty factor to wear off, and I think that skewed my opinion a bit. A quick mental reboot to pay attention, and it's fun, more than fast enough, and quite enjoyable.
I still think a Cooper S would be better to live with and just as much fun.

Thanks for all the replies guys, we went to the Mini dealer today and she smiled when she sat in it which said a lot! - The JCW or a Cooper S are definite candidates but I think we'll go for something with a warranty following comments and a bit of research on reliability.
Cheers,
