Re: MG Midget?
What about a 90's Lotus Elan? ...I'm not sure how much they cost. I know they are also FWD (Wrong WD), but have a very good reputation for being one of the best FWD chassis.douglasgdmw wrote:You will definitelty veto an MG-F then.skellyjohn wrote:Im just being a snob about an MX5. I know its a perfect, fun, cheap run around.... but I've spent the last 20 years saying its a hairdressers car
Looking at the options the only other I can suggest are (some are truly awful):
Reliant Scimtar: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/ ... t/scimitar
Toyota MR-2 T-Bar
Honda CR-X
Triumph TR-7: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/ ... 82/1316834
VW Golf Clipper (maybe be too hairdresser also)
Triumph Spitfire

You doubted that I did not think about the Elan to include it on the list

Had a quick shifty myself recently and all the ones that I had seen advertised were starting at £4.5k for over 100k miles. Admit John did not put in a budget but it would have could be £6k to get an Elan M100 in decent nick I reckon.

Re: MG Midget?
The MR2 roadster is really worth a test drive. Cracking little cars, cheap as chips now as well - look a little girly but around 8/10th of an elise imo.
Re: MG Midget?
Yup, but not necessarily a bad thing as it was reputed to be a good steer...Dominic wrote:Indeed. IIRC was it not based on a Fiat hatchback? Tipo or similar?rossybee wrote:I think Dom is referring to it being front driven![]()

I reckon the Barchetta was Punto based (Tipo was long gone by then..).
I owned a 2000 Punto HGT which had the same 1.8 under the bonnet, and shared a few other bits, Punto was quick in a sttraight line (for a Punto) and scary in the corners, especially with electric power steering which tended to fail mid roundabout... the Top Gear roadsters episode seemed to rate it well...
What about a mk3 mr-2, a few on here seem to really rate them and some can be had for very little outlay.

Re: MG Midget?
I actually loved my MG Midget in BRG. Still miss the thing. Easy to drive and felt fast at low speed.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

I'd love a Midget, but only so I could throw away the rotten shell and make one of these out of it:
