Elise Trophy & Cup change tyres
Elise Trophy & Cup change tyres
Saw this on the LOT newsletter which i found interesting
Avon ZZR tyres now available in Elise, Exige, 2 Eleven and Evora sizes - after 6 years of running Yoko A048's as a control tyre LoTRDC will move to Avon ZZR's for the 2013 season. The ZZR is a road legal tyre and is now available in all popular Lotus sizes. It's just been redeveloped for us and is currently getting rave reviews, much cheaper than the Yoko's, lasting longer and so far seems to be better in the wet with those who have used it. More info on the ZZR (http://www.avonmotorsport.com/road-lega ... rmance/zzr) .
There will also be a Lotus specific web page soon. For more details or to purchase email avonmotorsport@coopertire.com or call Avon direct on +44 (0)1225 703101. In addition anyone purchasing a set from Avon direct during December or January then emailing confirmation of their purchase to paul@lotrdc.com will get a £20 voucher to use against any LoT track day in 2013 PLUS a 2013 LoTRDC wall calendar FREE. Limited to personal purchases by Lotus owners only - for full terms & conditions please email Paul.

Interesting, I've got a set of these on the Caterham and had been meaning to post up to see if they were any good? They're certainly a lot less "treaded" than A048s/R888s, so not convinced of their water dispersing abilities...
Edit - the new design looks substantially more like 888s than the old design:

Has anyone tried these yet? I'll be needing a new set before Cadwell and Spa and the price of these is tempting. Just phoned a tyre place to get a price and he described Avons as absolute crap...

Re: Elise Trophy & Cup change tyres
How do they compare price wise to r888's?
A048s are exclusively through lotus now are they not hence the price hikes?

It is the width of the tyre that is treaded vs. slick.tut wrote:I don't understand the tread figures.

Re: Elise Trophy & Cup change tyres
Avons are quite well respected bike tyres for road use with soft compounds. Maybe they're making a mvoe to the same on cars. Certainly historicallly from memory (and maybe sterotyping slightly) Avons weren't exactly amazing performance car tyres.neil wrote:Has anyone tried these yet? Re: Elise Trophy & Cup change tyres
Avon ACB10's were used in Formula Ford for years (and on Caterham RSA's).
I had the chance to back-to-back compare Avon CR500's with Yoko A048R's in my old car, and found the CR500's to be rather more progressive and offer slightly better feel... (Slightly slower laptimes too, though...)
Be interesting to see the effect the Avon's have on ET lap times.

LoafingWafu won a set of these in a competition from LoTRDC over Christmas - asked him about them yesterday and he hasn't fitted them yet though.
Think he'll be running them in the sprinting series we're running this year, so will be interesting to see how they compare to the R888's he ran in 2012.
