I believe the July dates are to include the British sprint championship as well, which is brilliant news for us and should make for some good spectating too.

Looks as if the Honda would rule me out then Renny, but feet are OK.

Bhp/ tonne calc includes driver David, I assume you're 585kg was without...you should be class C unless you weigh <5 stone.David wrote:The last rolling raod I did gave 185 bhp at the wheels and all up with fuel it may reach 585kg which puts it over the 300BHP/ton. I've just read the S11 regs and the R400 would fit in the lower echelons road car class B.
Only other comment would be that the lighter cars (like a Caterham) have a much higher proportion of drag to power ratio compared to the heavier and higher BHP cars. So power to weight ratio is not the leveller it might seem. But KH is quite tight and slow, so maybe not a show stopper.
edited to add:
Swings and roundabouts David. High power 4wd cars will have bigger drivetrain losses which helps their calc wheras adding in the driver weight is very favourable for the lightweight stuff.
Class C could have anything from bike engined cars through R400's, 2-11s, Atoms up to 911 GT3RS, GT2, highly tuned Nissan GTRs...
Class B and A would be some very special and quick cars.
Class D ideal for a mule spec Elise (LOTRDC class A)
Obviously anything that fits the regs with proper aero will win.

Yes, and a JPS Europa.
Re: New Knockhill "Time Attack lite" series for trackdayers
Little tricky to police turbo cars with boost control I would have thought? Too easy to turn it down for the rolling road, and turn it up on the day?

DaveJ,
I'm already working on that problem. There are some options open and already used to address this.

Original engine???? What difference does it make if the series is based on power to weight?
That's both my track cars out the window
And almost all the guys I do trackdays with.

Re: New Knockhill "Time Attack lite" series for trackdayers
Pretty standard rule in Motorsport. Has been for years sadly. I think (skimming this thread, TBH) you'd be eligible for a catch-all class with a Honda Elise, but it would be for non road cars needing cages and fire suppression kit. Full race car spec.

Re: New Knockhill "Time Attack lite" series for trackdayers
TBH it's actually quite clever. I would think the reasoning behind using the road car regs is that if you have an engine swap car then you should be looking at Time Attack proper. This series has been set up for people who do trackdays and the vast majority of them have cars that are either standard or lightly modified. An engine swap car makes a massive difference as it puts you higher in the power to weight ratio than you would normally be. A super charged honda will have a better power to weight ratio than a 260 cup car but both will be in the same class. Where a 260 cup car would have a fighting chance against a modified saloon at a power to weight ratio just under the 300bhp/ton mark it wouldn't be able to catch a SC honda elise.
Also it keeps the costs down as I can see this developing into quite a popular series over time, an extension to the sprint and hillclimb championship as well as a feeder for time attack. Kinda bridges the gap.
