Mmmmmm, fancy not blanking your reg no when you upload a clip on Youtube that could loose you your License. Looks like the speedo is reading over the ton at times. Could that be used to convict ones self ???????

What a twunt! Straight line hero. Don't get the point of posting that video at all - the guy can't drive. It is nice to hear the engine note again.

A guy over on SELOC posted the video, the car had been lent to him by Bell and Colvill for the purpose of writing an article, the video was part of the article.

3 lane motorway? Could do better.
Sounded great at speed though, but more like a bag of spanners at low revs :?

Video is mine, came here from the YouTube stats and thought it's only fair to address some of the comments.

To answer a few of the comments on here I was lent the car to do an article for the SELOC site and newsletter (I won't link it here as I don't know the policy for such things), I didn't use this video in the article as frankly I didn't think the footage was worth including (more on that in a bit), but I put a few edited up as people had asked me about things like noise at low speed and on the motorway, hence some dull bits are included. I did use the start of it with the car starting up embedded in the piece from a separate upload.

In terms of speed, I'm guessing you're reading the increments wrong. Top speed in there is about 80mph (naughty I know) and most of it is pretty much dead on 60mph - as you say posting video of yourself driving around at 100mph+ on the public road isn't a smart idea. It was also the only Exige V6 demo car in the country at the time and I'd been trusted with it for an afternoon unsupervised and I was quite keen to return it to them in one piece, so excuse me if I wasn't blatting down country lanes fast enough.

Unfortunately the quality isn't great as people have said in car and that was my own fault. The opening shots were from my Canon EOS 5D Mk3, but obviously that's a bit big and heavy to mount in car so the rest was shot on my Canon Powershot S100. Their were two major issues with this though.
[*]First the mount I used was far from great for the way I fitted it (3 small suction cups cause shake, one strong one would be more solid) - it works well mounted off the windscreen with the extension bar running back, but not off the rear screen, so gave a lot of noise (the squeaking and rattling that can be heard) and shake.
[*]Secondly I'd used the S100 to do a couple long exposure still shots earlier in the day and to aid in this I'd switched on the ND filter. This meant I had a high ISO and a slow shutter speed which led to colour noise and blurring you can see particularly in the darker areas, and rendered a lot of the footage completely useless. Unfortunately by the time I realised I'd already dropped the car back and it was too late.

In future I'll probably either look to go with a single suction cup mount with the Powershot, or just borrow a GoPro. This is an argument to be made that it's probably not worth bothering with next time though as it's extra hassle and the time used setting up is probably better spent just driving the car.

The test route was my own and picked to cover a range of from fast and flowing (and unfortunately quite busy on the day), country lanes (which I couldn't use 99% of the footage from, tree cover and fading light rendered the footage useless), some low speed stuff through villages (useful for judging the general low speed behaviour of the car, how it deals with potholes and bumps, exhaust noise, low-rev tractability) and motorway (same again, but at motorway cruising speeds). I'll admit on the video it's not thrilling, but it was all driven for a reason.

For what it's worth I wasn't paid to be there either, in fact it cost me both time and money to put the article together. I do them for the benefit of the club and because I enjoy it and often use my work holiday allowance to do so.

I'm certainly no driving god but that's a little harsh, I like to think I'm competent behind the wheel. I've posted a couple on track videos from my Elise S1 (118bhp, KU31 tyres, standard Koni's in the first video, Gaz Gold Pros in the second) from my first two track outings below if you fancy telling me where I'm going wrong. :thumbsup

Thorburn,

Thanks for coming on here and putting your points across. :D

Do you think that you can 'borrow the car again' fit the Gopro and find some quiet twisty roads and make another little film?

Keep the lens away from pointing at the speedometer and show us how it's done :thumbsup

Is that a Honda engined Elise for the second video?

Steve.

Ps. Welcome by the way :cheers , and I am sure that a few boys on here are a little bit miffed that you had the car out for a little run all to yourself.

Edited to add; In your defence, I don't think that B&C would have let you drive and make the video with the car if you could not be trusted with it.

Thanks for the welcome, was a little worried I might get a frosty reception. :)

It's a 4 hour round trip to B&C for me and I don't think it would be fair for me to hog their demo car since I have no chance of buying one, so I'd be pushing my luck if I asked to try it again I think (they invited me the first time, I wasn't there under false pretences). In reality I think most people would still find it boring as I don't tend to push all that hard on the road these days.

Should be fantastic once some more customers start getting them through and seeing what they can do on track.

Hi,

Got to put my hands up, I stand corrected. Just checked the position on my speedo and as you said you only hit just over 80, just looked like the 100 mph reading on the speedo in the video. My point was its not the greatest idea to show your speed and Reg no in the video. I don't think there is many of us that can say we haven't been travelling at similar speeds on occasions. I certainly wasn't wanting to see you going any faster as the roads look a bit busy, we are spoiled up here with quite country roads just out of the city.

Cheers

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

Don't take our criticism to heart, we are a friendly bunch really and it was good to see the car in 'action' - just wasn't a Top Gear test
