Yep, insurance specified. I also couldn't be f**ked driving a pretty Elise with a torn face away over to Edinburgh. I gridged driving that far to pick the car up the day I bought it!

least mine does - i have taken it off a few times :D
Thanks for this mate, you pretty much confirmed what I thought. I drove down in person to the bodyshop and told them I wanted the car tomorrow ready to go. They've agreed. I spoke to the boss man who said if I have any issue fitting the grille when it turns up that I should bring it in and they'll sort it.

So a sort of vitory then...
I know I sound like a stuck record about this, but check it with a fine tooth comb.... Especially pertinent after Dom's experiences and I've never known os a company more prone to weasling out of stuff....

Good luck :thumbsup

No, you're absolutely right mate. Thankfully it's an insurance job so if there are any corners cut I'll have the insurance co withhold payment.

Got the car back today, minus the grille on one side and the centre. The exhaust (or something very close to it) is still making the same rattling noise when hot, that it was when I reported it when I handed it in on the 10th August. :(

Apart from that it appears to have been re-assembled well enough, and they have new rear arch protectors for me, but they appear to have to be cut to shape like the existing ones are - is that correct?

Check they are the right ones - could be S1 versions.... AFAIK, they are supplied pre-cut....

The ones he showed me that he'd ordered had corners that were at right angles, whereas the ones on the car at the moment have rounded edges.

Is the air con driven by a belt, or directly? I heard a squealing in traffic today and have a funny feeling it might have been my car. :(

Windows got a bit steamed up and I switched on the air con. They've f**ked it up because it isn't working. They had to take all the air-con hoses out to change the clam.

I cannot believe these f**king monkeys. They had it for 6 weeks and didn't think to check once they'd put the aircon back in if it was blowing cold f**king air.

Sounds like the system either has a leak or they never re-charged the gas.

The compressor is driven by the 'fan' belt and has a clutch which is engaged when the A/C is turned on. If there is no gas in the system a pressure switch stops the clutch from engaging.
