How much is this MAC worth
I think some of you use Macs does anyone have idea how much a secondhand one would be worth.
It's a Macbook Pro in black with 4 gb of ram and a dual core Intel 2.0GHz chip. Quite good condition.
I'm selling it for a friend and although I've looked on Ebay they all seem newer than this one.
(Thanks for any help, it'll save me going to a mac forum)

Re: How much is this MAC worth
do you know what size it is? 13inch, 15inch or so?
or what year it is?
i'd maybe be tempted to buy it as my old ibook died a year or so ago and should really replace it!
looking at prices the 2.4GHz seem to be anywhere between £300 to £900

Re: How much is this MAC worth
Remember, it's the devil's own hardware so good luck with it.
One of my favourites recently ... friend's daughter has a macbook of approx this vintage running OS10.2 (panther?). Cannot install latest version of iTunes as "your operating system isn't supported". Upgrade path to current OS version virtually non-existent unless you want to start again (which is supported). Meanwhile you can install a virtual machine on the same mac still running 10.2 and then run, say, windows 98 in the virtual machine. You can then install iTunes into that virtual machine onto an operating system that has been obsolete for a decade and it will work happily.
So has Apple just got such a bad operating system that they find it hard to write software that's compatible with more than one or two versions, or are they cynically trying to make you upgrade to their latest and greatest knowing they have you by the short and curlies? You decide ...
Cheers,
Robin

Re: How much is this MAC worth
If you have the serial number you can look up the model here http://support.apple.com/specs/#portablecomputers
From the spec I think it is either the first or second generation MacBook
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP31 - MacBook
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP23 - MacBook (13-inch, Late 2006)
It will run the latest OS X 10.7 Lion, but not the next revision (Mountain Lion) to be released in the summer.
I think it is probably worth £200-£250.
Cheers
Dave

What do you mean in the first sentence of your advert? I think the 3 is out in a few weeks...

Re: How much is this MAC worth
Which version of the OS is that Mac Mini running and which bits of working software still support that OS? IME with an older Mac (which isn't as old as the Mac Mini you're talking about) virtually no third party software wants to converse with OSX Leopard (from which I can't upgrade further)Skyenet wrote:All my Macs, including a March 2005 Mac Mini 1.42gHz PowerPC (which has been on 24/7 for nearly 7 years now, 2 weeks to gorobin wrote:Remember, it's the devil's own hardware so good luck with it.

Robin), are running the very latest version of iTunes, so I would, respectfully, suggest that the above is a rather misleading dig at Apple Computers

I know you're an Apple apostle, but their entire strategy revolves around constant updating and obsoleting legacy kit before it's necessary. Kudos that they have gotten away with it - it's a good business model and in your case, it doesn't seem to matter. However, using it for any current third party software would be virtually impossible, methinks. So Robin is spot on the ball - I think it's mental to need to upgrade a recent OS to run something as simple as iTunes - so why should they be forced to pay for an OS upgrade?

I can't run iCloud on my Macbook Air despite it being less than a year old..... I have to buy Lion if I want to..
Anyone want to buy a Macbook air 11" with 64GB solid state drive? It's a work of art but I think an Ipad is better suited for me..
