So this gets you the IAM certificate in three sessions? I always assumed the process was much more protracted than that.
What are we talking for the all in commitment including sesssions and test etc?

Like most of the old crowd on here, I did a couple of days on the road with Walshy back in the day. Think the first days was not long after i bought my first elise.
Best thing i ever did

The three sessions are just the classroom bit. You'll need actual car time with your observer once a week ideally for an hour or so for approx 12 weeks, and you practice on your own in between as much as possible. There's no schedule for that as you sort out what times suit you and your observer best.. Evenings or weekends, it's up to you both to agree. It's not beyond anyone here, but you do have to commit the time. If you don't work hard at it, not only might you not pass, but you're potentially taking a place away from somebody else (we had a long waiting list) and wasting the time of volunteers (observers don't get paid, and are mostly retired folks because they have the most spare time, hence the unfair stuffy flat-cap image the IAM has.). I was an observer down in Sheffield and it takes quite a commitment planning routes for each lesson etc, which was hard to do with a full time job too. The students have the easy job, but I enjoyed taking the training to the next level as an observer. I should probably find the Abz group and get involved again...

Thanks Graeme for the clarification....it didn't make clear on the website (not that I saw

) the additional time with the observers, but I see that's how it needs to happen. Hopefully find an observer that wants to do duke pass 12 times ...lol
Looks like the Edinburgh sessions are in Ratho, so just at the end of the M8.

Is it the I Am Drive & Survive course that you are doing(as in your title) or the I Am Motorist one?
Looked on the site , and thought it looks like the Drive & Survive course is for companies and their employers.
Anyone in the ABZ area interested in doing this?
Steve.

Thanks Steve,
The one I was looking at is called "Skill For Life" from the Edinbugh page
http://www.edinburghiam.org.uk/
It says....."Skill For Life is the IAM membership option, for a one off payment of £139.00 - includes everything you need to pass your Advanced Driving Test and become a full Member of the IAM.
Hope that's helpful and they do the same in Abz

As another former IAM observer I could not put it better myself! I have been thinking that I would probably benefit from a refresher course myself,... not sure if I'd go as far as getting involved with my local group again though... although some of the female students I "looked after" were quite hot

If anyone wants to know about Aberdeenshire IAM let me know.
It is called the Gordon Group although Aberdeen has their own group.
Course starts soon on the 17th of April - 5 weeks plus your drives with observer on top.
