My Cayman was on 19s but with PASM and I didn't find the ride anywhere near as harsh as the Exige is. Also when I bought it Mr Robertson said he thought Kwik Fit were (surprisingly) the cheapest for new tyres at around £250 a corner. I didn't change the tyres before selling so can't confirm that.

Mine also had the Porsche Sports Exhaust and it sounded superb :thumbsup

Mine is a OEM Sports exhaust which if you shop around will be about a grand.

Loads of manufacturers out there and they are available on fleabay (Milltek,Cargraphic,Remus.....or if your feeling festive......a Hayward and Scott

The air intake is much cheaper

Sourcing the bits and doing it yourself £250?

996 Carrera Throttle body
996 Plenum (Standard is fine though knowing you ......you'll get a carbon box fabricated )
Small piece of silicon hose
Hose Clips

I think it should work on the 2.7 as well

:cheers

Thanks everybody the Boxster looks like the obvious choice now. If I'm being honest the I'm not keen on the styling of the 996 soft top but it was more wife friendly being a 2+2. Done loads of reading last night and unless its 2002 onwards it really could get expensive to maintain.

This thread on Pistonheads was an eye opener http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topi ... e%21&mid=0

The hairdresser image doesn't bother me, I get comments about the s1 and I just laugh, so no point going straight now :)

Wow Andy thats some commendation,if a 987 Boxster is 90% of a GT3 then its a no-brainer.

I've read that the 2.7 can be a bit on the sluggish side, is that tosh? Is the speed comparable to the elise? The s1 is plenty fast for me on the roads around here so if it compares I'll be happy.

I can't make the time to do more trackdays so B road blasts are where its at for me and I would hate to lose the excitement i get every single time I go out.

Thanks for all the links George plenty there to keep me going  And I've read that an independant Porsche inspection is a must so those links will come in handy.

No probs : I think I may also have a Porsche Boxster buying guide in either Evo mags or Porsche World ones, if you pm me your email address I may be able to scan it in and send it across to you.

Thanks, from the quick search i did i think the TB mod works on the 2.7 equally well. first off will keep my eye out for a Sports exhaust just to make it sound even better.

Interesting... Looking forward to the first SE Boxster spannering event !

Mainsy - It took me longer to buy my Boxster S than any other car I have ever bought because there is a lot of crap ones out there. I think it was the 7th one I looked at before I bought mine. Seen some cracking looking cars in photos at garages but once viewed I found they were never as good as described or appeared. Main problems were previous owners weren't spending money on the consumables (tyres with 2mm on them, very low pads, worn discs, pitted alloys, extended gaps between services etc) and the state of the bonnet/front of some with stone chips - every bit as bad as an Elise can get. So if you can't view it yourself, definitely get it checked out independently.

For me, I find the Boxster an extremely capable car but have to say it doesn't have the raw appeal of the Elise. My Elise was underused but there were still a good few nights when I would just go out for a run in it on a summer evening. Whilst the Boxster is better in many ways and I love it once out driving it, it isn't getting my backside off the sofa enough to make me want to get into it in the first place. It would make a fantastic 2nd car, but as a 3rd car/toy it just isn't appealing enough.

Oh, and another website worth looking at for info is Boxa.net :thumbsup

Really?

ABZ OPC have 2 x Spyders at the moment, peachy :thumbsup

Also a Peridot Green Cayman R demo.......

And also 2 x 991 C2S........which are going to be the demos from Saturday £98k including options!!!!!!!!! crazy money but "can lap the ring with an Engineer at the wheel in the same time that Walter Rohl can get a current GT3 round" so bodes well for the next hot 911.

The Spyder is a great looking car.

Porsche Aberdeen are also giving out test drives on the Cayman R willy nilly. Think it's a condition for them to have it, they need to carry out more than 25 drives a month. Or something like that

I sold my S1 111s in July 2010 and bought a 964 c4.

I bought it from 911 Virgin and the service was first class. I flew down to pick the car up and was close to tears driving up the road. I HATED it! The driving position was murder - the pedals fee like they're in the passenger footwell. It felt sluggish, very heavy and and the mpg was double what the Elise was.

16 months down the line and I'm starting to love it. It starts first time every time, it doesn't leak, it's got 2 seats in the back for dwarves, the servicing costs haven't been as bad as I thought and the sluggish feel has been replaced by a planted feel instead. It's miles different from the Elise so make sure you buy before you try.
