Child seat in an Elise?

Post by Tommy Twist » Mon Aug 01, 2011 6:10 pm

Hi folks,

I have a 14-month-old daughter who usually travels with us in our 'banger' shopping car. Now and then I'd like the option of taking her with me in the Elise.

What are your opinions on this?
Have any of you used a forward-facing child seat in their Elise/Exige? Any advice you could offer?

The car is a 2007 'S', without airbags.

Thank you :cheers

Child seat in an Elise?

Post by colintinto » Mon Aug 01, 2011 6:36 pm

Yep, I still use a car seat for one and a booster seat for the other.

It's a seat I got to fit in the back of a 911. It's old style, so quite narrow, and more or less fits.

Can't remember the make, is 5 years old. Something Elite.

Hi Tommy - my kids have these & we have them in Elise all the time.

http://maxi-cosi.com/ch-en/Products/Car ... di-XP.aspx

Seat might be a bit big for a 14 month'er- they are supposed to be for +3 years. I think, Finlay, my youngest was 20 months before he started using one but he was a bit of a chunky monkey.

i did have his previous seat in it once (one of those adjustable/reclining types) but a was happy how it sat because it was tad wider than the seat.

good luck with the search

Thanks for the replies Stevo, Colin, Alex.

We use a Maxicosi Priory XP in the other car. I suspect the base might be a bit wide for the Elise's Probax seats, but I'll see how it fits before ruling it out.

Cheers.

Hi Tommy

I think that the Priori will fit - certainly worth a check. I've used Maxicosi Tobi and it fits really well in the Elise. Baby sits up high too - to see out the windscreen.

Elises are great baby cars - you sit right next to them so you can chat/feed breadsticks/wipe up sick without too much distraction!

Cheers

Recaro start fits perfectly :thumbsup

I sold my two to matelotman, they grow with the kids so last them the full duration of their seat requirement years.

Oh and they look cool 8)

I used the kiddi infinity pro, fitted perfectly in the Elise! Also easy to transfer between cars, it's the one we share between my car and the grandparents!

We have a maxi cosi tobi for the middle one and the eldest is in a ..... cant quite remember but i think its a Recaro Sport and it fits fine also.

Both kids love the elise although a pair of these would be advisable although ours were a little older when they first went in the car so they may be a little big.

It's a doddle. Or should that be a toddle ;-)

We've used 3 types.

Porsche branded seat designed for back of a 911, c/w lap table. Good from a few months when they can sit up unaided, although would need to check weight regs.

Recaro Young Sport, similar to Rossybee's but without the speakers ;-) Need to pop the recliner adjuster out of this to ensure clearance on the edge of the Elise seat but we never used it anyway even in the big car. Good for longer journeys (eg took it on the Achmelvich campaganza run, 5 hrs in the saddle, no bother).

£7 booster seat from eBay, now the weapon of choice other than for long journeys.

I forgot about the speakers 8)

Mine were black & red which went beautifully with the abattoir red recaro interior of my RS6

Yep there's a touch of red trim in our ones which sat nice with the Recaros in the Golf Anni ;-) They now add a splash of colour to the smart but functional grey of the Octavia interior, but mostly they add lots of black :-)

Eilidh is 6 next week and starting to fill out her seat a bit, especially height-wise. Backrest is on full extent  Big up for that brand of seat though, it's grown with her over the last 5 years :thumbsup

I have a Recaro Start I might sell on if you're interested? It's in a cloth pattern called Blue Inca and I have the optional padding and head support for smaller kids.

Many thanks again for all the helpful replies :thumbsup

I tried our Maxicosi Priory in the Elise tonight, but really its base is too wide for the ProBax seats.

Which of you are using your child seats on ProBax seats?

Thanks again.

I don't think the base of Probax seats is wildly different from the std ones, but I have been known to be wrong ... ;-)

I couldn't get our old Maxi-Cosi to fit either, for ref.
