Engine temp too low on mway

Post by Sanjøy » Mon Aug 21, 2006 9:19 am

GLA - Edin run yesterday saw it dip as low as 75 for most of the mway and then back up to 85 when back in town.

Reason to worry ?

Probably the blue temperature sender. My car has had this problem in the past and had the sender replaced. It's also doing it again now. Occasionally dips down to 65 degrees.

You could try cleaning the electrical connector that plugs into the sender or failing that, get the sender replaced.

Thought that could be it, replaced the brown and blue 2 years ago. Guess could be gone again.

I have had the car for just over a year and I have gone throgh 3, the latest one is playing up now too. If the temp is jumping 10 deg or more in one step its the sender, if it is more gradual I could be something else, I have read about thermostats sticking or failing to seal and causing a 10 deg drop.

i've got a spare temperature sender for the S2 if you want to try that to see if that's the problem?

Used to be a regular with mine, but Robin on using his infra red temp sensor showed that it was spurious.
