Petrolhead books, what you reading?

Post by Chucks » Tue Jun 28, 2011 1:22 pm

After being a sceptical luddite for ages I recently invested in an e-reader. Really pleased with it & wish I had bought one ages ago, now like a bairn with a new toy. Anyway got any recommendations?

FWIW couple of my recent favourites,

Senna versus Prost
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Senna-Versus-Pr ... 733&sr=8-1
Half way through this & bought after seeing the movie. Really makes you miss the days when F1 had a real rivalry.

Jim Clark: Tribute to a champion
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jim-Clark-Tribu ... 289&sr=1-4
Found it a bit heavy on the amateur psychology but still a good read.

Driving like crazy
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Driving-Like-Cr ... 417&sr=1-1
A collection of magazine articles re-printed. Similar to the typical Clarkson effort, if anything a little more intelligent.

Vulcan 607
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vulcan-607-Rowl ... 532&sr=1-1
Absolutely amazing account of the bombing mission to the Falklands.

Anyone else got any must reads?

I only tend to read fictional books, usually crime related.
Ian Rankin has seen me through my last 3 holidays, and I've got another 2 packed away for when we head off in a couple of weeks :)

i really struggle to read fictional books, no offence intended but i just feel like im wasting my time when i could be reading historical books. Honestly feel i learn more from them.

The Life of Senna...great read...still to see the movie.

For something different, i'd strongly recommend anything by Conn Igullden....historical fiction based around known facts....2 series of books, about Caesar(4 novels) and Genghis Khan(4 novels)....brilliant!! Pretty gory at times but incredible stories....couldn't put them down once I'd started.
S3 Elise SC Touring+AC in graphite over black. My 3rd Elise.....and BY FAR the best.

Two of my favorites.

Why finish last? by Andrew Cowan. The account of the first London to Sydney. Proud to have a signed copy. Not sure you can get on an eReader though.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Why-Finish-Last ... 0362000522

also. not for Petrolheads, but one I think many SE'rs would find interesting .The Ascent of Everest. by John Hunt. The story of the first ascent of Everest. Really detailed yet an excellent read - from a time when we just got on and did things. for those who work in big organisations, it is inspirational!

Been meaning to read the first two, keep getting recommended on amazon

The Alex Roy one was a decent enough read. Still undecided if he's a champion bellend or if his exploits are growing a pair to the extreme. Probably the former.

Looks a giggle. Did feel a bit of a psycho searching for the title, regret not wearing my tinfoil hat now. Any Lotus content? Did he suggest an Elise for any particularly dim witted friends?

None taken :) Guess I just like a little escapism !!
Same for my TV viewing habits where I prefer things like Spooks & Sherlock.
