Audi A2.. can't believe I am doing a "what car" thread..

Post by Victor Meldrew » Sun May 15, 2011 10:18 pm

Ok gents, looking at buying an Audi A2 as a school run car for Lesley to use so I can get my S4 back for daily driving.

So far I have been advised that the 1.4 std petrol version is so gutless it wouldn't manage three fat blokes up a hill. So a 1.6 petrol or a 1.4 tdi.

Anyone have prior experience or stories about these?
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

No experience but something in the Sunday Times today about them being a good buy as they are appreciating a bit (rather than depreciating) according to the trade...

I think you could do better than an A2, Victor.

I had my eye on these for years but Lisa consistently talked me out of it.

Our MINI is proving quite a capable car for pre-schoolers and Primary-schoolers :thumbsup And of course there are several other things out there with a bit of panache. Even an A3, perhaps, if you want to keep the 4-ringed badge thing going.

Enjoy the choosing!

I had a 1.6 petrol a3 courtesy car before. It was totally gutless and needed a 6th gear badly. I would deffinately have the tdi over the petrol engine

My brother had a 2004 example of the 2nd gen A3, in Sport spec, 3 doors, with the then very fresh 140bhp 16v TDI PD engine. Very, very nice car, plenty quick, mucho economical. The later variants with I presume Common Rail version of the 140 and even better the 170 engine, will be quite something.

Wouldn't bother with a petrol engined Audi in that bracket, I reckon.

Had we the cash, it could well have been something like that rather than a 5 year old Cooper ;-)

Were working to a £5K budget, and thats pointing us to some nice low milage TDi's. Looking for small, fuel efficient. The diesel option is probably the one we will go for.

A3's all look a bit plain in my opinion. And you cant get 60+mpg.

I had a A2 TDi as a rental car a few years back and I loved it. However £5k is a lot to spend on a car which is a minimum of 6 years old.

Other suggestion - post 05 Merc A class?

It's a pity they stopped making them, but I guess Audi were just a little too early to that particular party..

If it's Merc A class or Audi A2, then A2 every time! :thumbsup

seat ibiza/leon with the tdi engine would give you 50mpg 4/5 star ncap and 130+ bhp in a tidy package.

I think its may favourite answer to what car threads, I'll need to think of something else but it's under 5k and gets you 50mpg :-)
