Hi,
I just wondered has anybody experience with Carnoustie Sportscars, i just sort of bought a car from them today

Thanks in advance, Marten

Hello Marten
I have had dealings with the owner Gordon Leslie in the past, in previous employment (bought an AMG Merceded then an Audi RS6 from him)
Nice guy, but can be a bit of a pushy car salesman.
Not had any dealings since he started up on his own, so cannot comment from that aspect.
I assume the car you've "sort of" bought is the Gordon Lamb special?
All the best

Hi rossybee,
you are so right, yess i was very interested in the gordon lamb car, and after speaking to Gordon, i agreed on the sale thinking it was an Elise S
I then thought of putting a post on SE, and after doing so
i did a search on SE and found the topic you just mentioned
Now i feel slightly awkward. i do think gordon is an nice and honest guy,
but now in the know the car is very likely not to be an S, i am at the point of "what to do next"
cheers, Marten

Re: carnoustie sportscars anybody
I have only ever sold cars to Gordon, always found him to be a fair chap and never had any issues with him. My parents bought a car from him and thought he was great too.
In fact he offered to sell my Clio V6 for me and took no where near what I would have expect from the deal.
Hope that helps.

Re: carnoustie sportscars anybody
Well don't pay for something that's not exactly what you want.
Just a salesman at the end of the day. If not sold to you, someone else will be along.

Cheers guys,
after me explaing the situation to Gordon, he made a call to Lotus and they confirmed as earlier mentioned on SE
the car was delivered with the standard 122 Bhp engine (so it's not that is has been altered at a later moment)
Still don't understand, that when you do a plate search on the HPI register it says it's an Elise S
I just hope Gordon and I can come to some sort of an arrangement, I like the outside of the car...
apart from the wheels that is

Re: carnoustie sportscars anybody
No knowledge of this car, but I have tried to use Gordon to buy a car on 3 occasions in the past few years (before he went out on his own to be fair) and on each occasion something wasn't as it should be. A Merc CLK where the service history couldn't be found when you turned up but was always available if you phoned, a Porsche where the registration number didn't relate to the V5 and a "low mileage" MX5 (
) which had almost as many miles as Campbell's elise when I got there. Nothing dodgy or the like, just enough to make you pause, think and move on.

If its the car you really want, then go for it. If its really a S model your looking for, then there are plenty out there to choose from.Gareth wrote:Well don't pay for something that's not exactly what you want.

Elise S1

Re: carnoustie sportscars anybody
It could well be an Elise S.
In s2 guise, most people associate the 156bhp engine with the 111S model. However, I have the 111 model which is also VVC. The 'S' after 111 denoted luxury trim level (carpets, driving lights, leather, etc.) - it's the '111' bit that indicates the engine type.
It's my understanding that Lotus also produced an Elise S which had the luxury trim, but didn't have the VVC engine.
That said, if it's not the car you want, don't proceed with the purchase.

as in the old S1 days, S stood for the 145 bhp VVC engine AFAIK
I do like the looks, but need to give it a nights rest

and think over it not being the 156 engine and the wheels in need of a refurbishment
Re: carnoustie sportscars anybody
Confused me when I started looked at s2
Series 2 = K series = 120hp
135r and 190 = K series = 135 hp or 190hp
111/111s = k series = 156hp
111r = Toyota engine = 190hp
Then 111r became r but same car
S model = Toyota = 134hp
SC model = Toyota supercharged = 218hp
Check out http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Elise_models for details of models
and
http://www.elises.co.uk/models/ for more info on the specs/option packs available for each model.

Not in the s2 world. You can get the original launch details of the VVC s2 in 2002 from here: http://www.elises.co.uk/models/s2/111/index.htmlmarten wrote: i thougt the S stood for the 156bhp

The Lotus Elise range has just become better with the introduction of the Elise 111 and 111s high performance variants...The introduction of the entry level Elise 111 and the luxury 111s version including full leather interior,...
To further confuse the isuse, yes the lower powered Toyota was called the S but we're talking K series s2.IanD wrote: S model = Toyota = 134hp

Re: carnoustie sportscars anybody
Ahhhh I'm wrong !!! Just looked at advert now on web expecting to see a 2005 or later ElisNDEA this was when Toyota model started and it was a 2003 model with rover K series engine so that is a totally different S to the later S model and one I have never seen mentioned
Thought I understood car models pretty well from my boyhood years but certainly lotus dont make it easy with 7 or so engines specs in a set of models that aren't significantly different looking never mind the special editions and option packs.
Looks a good colour anyway as I like mid blues and must have seen adverts for at least 5 different mid blue colours for models around that year (remember another one mentioning 6 models in a specific blue). Buy it and spent your life telling people it is a S and explaining it isn't a 111s even though it looks like one
