Hi guys,

I see this thread has run dry but there have been some new proposals. The Lord Provest has urged Edinburgh City Council to buy the airport roads back from the airport operator BAA. If they choose to do so it could put an end to the drop off charge due to be introduced in the next couple of weeks.

I have started a new forum topic at http://www.airportforums.co.uk/topic/sh ... port-roads

The drop off fee at Edinburgh Airport will be introduced this Friday, 29th October. You have been warned>

Why not drop people off at the last roundabout just before where the fake Spitfire is and cause a bit of traffic chaos. Go around the roundabout and back out. £0 cost and only a short walk for passengers. 8)

The police will be sitting there to make sure you don't do that, is my guess - at least they will once a few 100 people have done it and caused chaos.

Better still, drop them off at the Hotel which must have a bus to take people to the airport.

Or, use the big car park behind the hotel, which has a bus to take people to the airport. I haven't tried it, but chances are that you can drive in and out within 15minutes and not pay a penny (that's common for this type of car park to handle people driving in by mistake, or who cannot find a parking place). Even if it isn't free, it's a safer place to drop passengers off who can then walk in to the carpark and use the bus.

The best solution, however, is to avoid flying at all costs ;-)

Cheers,
Robin

There's quite a lot of space to let people out near that long-stay, in fact, from memory, including a handy r/bout off the beaten track to help with turning :-)

It's not an impossible walk down to the terminal from there either. Probably beats the bus unless weather is terrible. I'll be at EDI twice next week  so will try to do some sleuthing.

There are also some buses run down from the Park n Ride but not that frequent. If you knew the timetable, you could make it work I think. And if they would just finish that Tram Debacle...I could jump a train to Edin Park then connect to the Tram to the airport and never have to worry about dropoff or parking again. Just the exorbitant cost of the train fare of course.

However, as Robin says, the loopholes will eventually be closed.

Sorry, if that is the way that they have regulated it, then you should abide by it.

That is abiding by it. They want a pound to use their drop off facilities; they are not attempting to raise one pound per passenger entering the terminal (they already do much worse than that by taxing the fcuk out of your ticket, alongside the tax levied by HM gov).

Campbell, the tram is never going to get that close to the airport (it'll be a fairly long walk, albeit along a covered walk way). That said, the tram is probably never going to move off Princes Street where it is currently marooned and in use as a drop in centre for the Jakies (sp?).

Cheers,
Robin

LOL.

I thought you meant euphemistically for a mo there, as in "project never going to complete", ha ha. However, looking at the route plans (which are very accurate going by the areas they are digging up right outside my office just now), the tram will indeed be close to the airport, terminating roughly where the multi-storey empties its customers back onto Jubilee Road just south-east of the terminal arrivals door.

Anyway, always enjoy a new bit of sport. We had great fun using the PC World car park in Corstorphine as a park n ride many years ago, until they stamped that out.

Will be interesting to see how it pans out. All in all, at a pound a go, I wouldn't be surprised if people end up just stumping up and gradually forgetting about the issue (which is, I bet, what BAA are expecting / hoping).

It's been a while since I parked in the Long Stay @ Edinburgh but I was shocked today to discover it now costs £9-10 per day  The last time I remember it being about £5-80. When did it increase by 50%, guess is when that new company took it over, for fecks sake !!

Aye it's a sair fecht. You should try the Short stay for just over 24hrs. Bargain at £48. They are having a LAUGH.

You can pre-book the Long Stay for a little less than the dayrate you got, I believe.

I also notice they have implemented a "free drop-off"...but it's part of the govt's anti-obesity campaign, being sited as it is about 20 mins walk from the terminal ;-) Or of course a short bus hop (same one that serves the Long Stay I think).

It's quite impressive to hike all the parking charges when the tram connection is now delayed indefinitely. For people like me coming from the west, a train to Edin Park then tram hop to the airport would be viable.

Joined up government eh.
