I would be more inclined to guess they are hoping to cash in on the euro-buyers who either dont know or dont bother about accident damage.

The guy I sold one of my old cars (not damaged) to also bought a few Cat D elises off ebay, takes them over to Holland, and then its up to the continental buyers to work out or spot the fact they have been crashed and repaired. He was buying them at cat D rates, and undamaged cars like mine, and then just selling them all for full retail.

Luckily that's not a problem anybody will have anytime soon - I don't have the time to do anything to my own cars, let alone buying in crash damaged ones to add to the fleet :-) If I did have the time, I would be out driving whichever of them actually works rather than fixing them :-)

Cheers,
Robin

Nope..........

I have had a quick scan of my "book" and made the following observations:-

I have run a check on 12 reasonably local cars that I was considering a bid on within the past 16 weeks

4 are on VCAR as Cat D
1 is on VCAR as Cat C

A staggering 8 out of the 12 had outstanding finance on them

I know of one particular CAT D car that was purchased by a trader

I would not like to openly state how many have entered SE but would encourage recent purchasers to check their reg numbers on any of the vehicle check websites for their own comfort........or displeasure as the case may be

:cheers

if i was buying a car it would be nice to know IF it had been in a crash.

Not all smashed cars are repaired with a claim. Always worth knowing a cars history and buying it from someone you know. (Well apart from Mcape  )

I have no worries about buying a Cat d or C car, i would just like to know what sort of damage had been done.

My next lotus was a cat C

You had me worried for a minute  , even though I bought my 135R in 2005 and I was 99.99% sure it was OK I
thought I'd better check anyway for piece of mind.

I used this site https://www.mycarcheck.com/ Response only takes a few seconds.

Iain do you have shares in any of these HPI sites - as I'm sure they've just taken several SE £s over the last few days.
