Highland Holiday Cottage Recommendations

Afternoon all. First post on here so hello.

Can anyone recommend a holiday cottage in the Highlands or Islands for November this year. We're looking to spend a week up there for our Honeymoon after realising a new kitchen and Honda Conversion are more important to us than 2 weeks in Bali or The Maldives.

Therefore, Im looking for somewhere special with breathtaking scenery, small and romantic, hopefully with a wood burner or real fire. Dont mind where it is, but we would like to do some walking/ mountain biking plus have use of a close by pub and within driving distance of some nice eateries.

Not sure whether to take the Elise up or the dog and the bikes in/ on the back of the Freelander yet.

Just at the gateway to the highlands, this place is great and has the wood fires etc. I know the owners and would recommend taking the bikes etc, there are good tracks right on the doorstep.

Since the pics on this site were taken the rear sun room has been rebuilt with heated floors etc.

Fit a towbar to the freeloader and hire a trailer and take both dog and elise up

Can highly reccommend this place, they have four cottages I think, we stayed on the Coach House for a skiing holiday this year, its just outside Newtonmore and not far from Aviemore and Cairngorm national park.
The estate itself is really stunning and has lots of walks right on the doorstep.

I'd suggest looking at the Applecross area, if you get one in or close to the village then the pub will be handy. Applecross Trust have cottages and houses to rent, google should find them easily for you. Another option would be to look for some in the Gairloch area, plenty good roads and scenery around there.

Lovely cottage and some excellent roads (positioned at the start of the Kinlochleven loop). Also a very nice fish restaurant just a few miles along the road.

If you want something more remote, you could do worse than look at cottages on the River Cassley.

Paul's setup at Mansio is pretty professional, although haven't stayed with them, sadly

Our own experiences are mainly at Grieves Cottage in Arnisdale, an absolute gem of a place looking out over the mouth of Loch Hourn. The Estate has recently renovated a slightly smaller cottage (Old Post Office) as well. Have yet to try that one but if Grieves is anything to go by, it'll be very cosy indeed.

Again, haven't stayed, but have camped around the location often enough and it's amazing.

Not sure of biking for either of these though. Have taken the bikes to Arnisdale and had some fun round the estate tracks, but maybe you want something a bit more extreme.

Right, huge apologies for not replying to this post sooner in order to say thanks for the suggestions. Ive been away on my hols then was working away until this weekend.

We didnt go with any suggestions above mainly due to the fact that they werent available the week we wanted.

Would it be fair to assume that it would be best to stop somewhere on the way up. Im guessing it could take 8-9 hours to get there from Durham and it does say its best not to arrive in the dark. As were going the day after the wedding so dont want to be up for 7.00am, plus its November, I dont think we would get there in time.

Also, what are the roads like up there? Will the Elise be ok or would I be best borrowing my Dads Impreza?
