Hi,
Sorry to turn SE into a bit of a careers forum at the moment.
Louise (my fiance) is just about to start her final year at uni, doing a masters in Chemical Physics. She is currently looking at her career / further education options for when she graduates next summer.
Can anyone offer advice / information on chemical / geo sciences in the petrochemicals industries, or any suggestions for other chemical companies in Scotland that may be worth investigating.
Feel free to bitch about current employers, as Louise is keen to get a true picture of what employers may be like

I graduated from St Andrews a few years ago with a chemistry degree and have been happily working with a waste management company in aberdeen since. There are some chemical related jobs in this area and quite a few of the companies in Scotland are operating from the Glasgow area. Many of them are increasingly looking to treating the waste themselves and so are developing / setting up / running various treatment processes which can often be quite intresting. This is an area of work i had never even considered till i happened upon it after i left uni. Just another option to think about...
Best of luck to Louise finding something she enjoys

Thanks for that advice. That is an area we had not though about, and being based in Glasgow, will be worth investigating.
Cheers

A number of the large Patent firms take on graduate / post grad trainees with science degrees to train as Patent Attorneys. A particularly well paid profession which would pretty much always keep the employee at the front of developments in their specialism. Just a thought.
