Bad news, One year on......

Post by jen » Mon Jul 19, 2010 4:11 pm

Some of you may know already but Alan is undergoing emergency surgery on his right arm at the moment.

He was doing some some diy in the house which involved taking aqua panelling out of our en-suite but it was really difficult so had to cut it with an angle grinder. Unfortunately it hit something and he lost control of it and it went into his right arm. It has cut right through his artery and has cut through muscle and nerves. He has also lost a LOT of blood.

At the moment he's in surgery where they will be taking a bit of his vein from his leg to join up the severed artery and re-attach his nerves and muscle. At the moment, I have been told worst case senario he will lose his arm, best case he won't have complete feeling in his right hand and will be off work for at least 4-6 months.

I just can't believe it. I'm sitting in the hospital right now waiting anxiously with Nicola for Alans folks to arrive from Falkirk and for more news. He should be in surgery for another couple of hours. Fingers crossed it will be good news from here on.

:(

sh*t Jen. I've got everything crossed for him. Chin up, stay strong and what will be will be. The guys up there are good - put my face back together after a contretemps on Union St some years ago, but don't let that put you off.

Anything we can do, shout.

I hadn't heard Jen, but that is terrible news. You must be devastated at something like that happening out of the blue. Little consolation, but an injury like this is sometimes worse than it first seems, and the standard of surgery and what they can achieve nowadays is fantastic.

Tell him that we are all thinking of him and hoping for the best.

All the best.

Tell Alan despite all his S2 Owners digs etc I hope you are both OK

Dont worry Jen, these things are a piece of cake to fix. Must be quite a bad one if they plan to harvest an artery but Doctors always like to make it seem more dramatic than it actually is so you think they are special once they have fixed it.
