Anybody else looking for a new steed at the mo?

Post by flip flop » Fri Apr 30, 2010 6:23 pm

Just wondering if you are having the same troubles I am,

been looking for an exige and finally decided I'd found the car for me, dallied due to a family issue and then when I went to buy it somebody had got there in between and taken it.

:chainsaw was my first reaction then thought, sod it I'm just gonna be less specific, buy the best of the rest and enjoy the summer. Every bleedin exige I fancy has already gone. The only others I have seen are private cars at dealer money and I'm too tight for that game. On the plus side Ive spoken to some really nice owners who hopefully I may meet again at track days and stuff.

Am now getting fed up, really wanted the car I missed, and am a couple of grand short for the only other one I fancy on the net.

Is it like this every year at this time trying to buy an exige?
Do I need to sit on autotrader and ph every hour to try and catch one first before some other lotus starved person gets it, or worse, some frenchy or belgian buggers off to europe with it?
Other than autotrader, ph or here can anybody suggest anywhere else worth looking,

cheers (and sorry for the rant)

It does get a bit frustrating.

Is there no hope of moving a bit on the £2k price difference of the other one you fancy?

I suspect this is a worse situation than normal as there was a period of time when new cars weren't selling and anyone wanting a car was buying second hand. Now that the market is improving people are starting to buy again but there is a lack of cars around a year or so old as there were so few new registrations for a long period during the 'credit crunch' AND of course there are still a lot of cars going abroad which is also keeping prices high.

Not sure what your budget is, but there's a nice blue one on Pistonheads, was owned by a member here (from new) for a while, you won't find a shinier secondhand car!

Might also be worth looking at SELOC or even ebay.

Good luck finding the right car, it'll be worth it :thumbsup

Yes i'm shed hunting and they are either miles away or stupidly priced

I hate car shopping they are like washing machines but more expensive, less reliable and almost as boring

Morning guys and thanks for the replies and pm's which I will reply to.

Jim, budget wise I had hoped to spend 25 - 25.5k max on a reasonably low wner/mileage 220 series 2 exige, pref orange with stage 3 exaust (exactly as the one greame sold last week :puke ) I am open to white / black but unfortunately have a thing about blue cars otherwise i'd be laughing.

I have to get another vehicle aswell so potentially could have allocated another 2k from that fund, but that still left me 2k short of a private orange one in lothian currently on ph (which is the only other car I've seen at the mo I really like). 4k is just to much for me to justify to myself or she who must be obey'd.

Im not sure if Im correct here but my assumption is that the 25k 220's seem to be moving a lot faster than the 30k cars. Whereas on my last marque it was 29k cars that moved quickest all the time (stuttgart pony's). This makes me think that maybe I should hold out and try to find somebody needing a quick deal on a 240. Try and get the best deal i can at the top of my extended budget in the knowledge that in 18-24 months time when I sell the car it will be right on the 25k fast selling sweet spot in the market. The question is, will that sweet spot in sales stay at 25k band, move down with the current cars or up to get 240's. Sometimes i wish I wasnt so tight and didnt buy with resale in mind!

I dont suppose any of the above really matters as with my willpower i'm gonna buy the first car I can thats right be it top middle or bottom of my budget, just need one to appear now!

cheers

Hi Mark,

Thanks a million, been through all the ph and autotrader ones, all were sold, one duplicate, one had finance and mileage issue, and one the dealer had a series of poor reviews on another forum. There was however one car I hadnt seen and I have now had a chat with the owner.

Now its time to get onto the garage and make some calls doing some homework, in principle though though I'm def interested, if anything comes of this there is a pint here with your name on it,

thanks again,

Andy
