Re: Lotus heavy content in this months Evo
yup, and just in time for the summer.
That 260 looked sweet, and the trackday car test, bizarrely without any time on track, was good too.

Bit confused...picked up the May issue of Evo yesterday, have you guys got your hands on June's one?!

Just looked and it's the June's issueKool PT wrote:Bit confused...picked up the May issue of Evo yesterday, have you guys got your hands on June's one?!

Re: Lotus heavy content in this months Evo
Weird! I'll keep my eyes open for it, assume it'll be on the stands in the next week or so.
Just realised that ^ was my first post as well after lurking for a few months, so hi!
I've been considering purchasing an S1 Elise at some point this year. Currently have an off-the-road MR2 roadster that needs a new engine. Plan is to fix it up, sell when Summer's at its hottest, then maybe pick up an Elise in August/Sept when people are more likely to be selling up before Winter.

Most of the magazines come out a month before the cover date - so June cover is in the shops throughout May and if you subscibe you normally get a few days to a weeks lead on it appearing in the shops.Dave wrote:Just looked and it's the June's issueKool PT wrote:Bit confused...picked up the May issue of Evo yesterday, have you guys got your hands on June's one?!I thought when you subscribed you got it a few days before it went on sale in the shops, but surely not a month ahead.

I think EVO put out 13 issues a year now which is why the delivery structure and date is always slightly off skew.
Good luck with the sale of the Roadster, was it a pre-cat issue which ronnied the engine?

Re: Lotus heavy content in this months Evo
Not entirely sure if I'll blame pre-cats. I had them done when I first picked up the car with ~80k on the clock and they were a perfect honeycomb. Took them out anyway, but the car always drank oil ferociously and eventually the low oil light flashed on one day while I was going particularly fast round a particularly sharp bend. I had the bearing shells etc replaced hoping that this might just salvage the engine, but now with around 104k on the clock, the rattles are back. So possibly oval bores rather than precat failure?StiflerMR2 wrote:I think EVO put out 13 issues a year now which is why the delivery structure and date is always slightly off skew.

It's drivable, but it would be immoral to sell it on in this condition (and any buyer with an ounce of sense would walk away anyway after hearing it rattle under load - or clocking the CEL on the dash). I did consider a 2zz swap but now I think it'll be cheaper, quicker and easier just to pick up a facelift 1zz and drop it in, enjoy it for a coupla months more and sell on. I have a few mods that I can sell to help finance it all, anyway.
Meanwhile I've got a '59 plate Hyundai i10 as my reliable(touch wood)/practical/daily car so I have the luxury of not having to sell the MR2 at the exact same time as I pick up an Elise - hoping this will help me sell high and buy low!

You're name rings a bell from the MR2ROC,are you on there?
Sounds like you are being sensible with regards the engine. All the best with it

Re: Lotus heavy content in this months Evo
Yeah I used to post there quite frequently, less so these days since I have barely driven the car for about 8 months. And yeah, I think in the long run it's the better option than just selling it as an X reg with a duff engine for a grand or two.StiflerMR2 wrote:You're name rings a bell from the MR2ROC,are you on there?

The June Evo is out today, picked it up, quite a decent buyer's guide that offers some new info for any would-be buyers. A couple of points that I havent seen on some of the other buying guides that I've browsed over the years, could be worth writing up or scanning the pages and hosting on the site.
