ECU Re-Flash

Post by PrAzZz » Sat Jan 30, 2010 5:42 pm

Hi...

Has anyone had this done?...

http://www.oakmeremotorgroup.co.uk/lotu ... U-Re-Flash

Something that would be worth getting done? I find the cam a bit frustrating as I think it kicks in too late.

The page also mentions ... "This modification will also increase performance to the lower rev range."... Would this be the case?

Anything to watch out for when getting work like this done? I take it my fuel usage figures will suffer a bit.. :)

I'd be up for that for £149 - that's the sort of price I thought it would cost when Lotus originally announced it.

Murray's - up for price-matching that if we get enough buyers?

I sent mine away for this exact thing. I'm expecting a phone call saying it's done any day now.

I will let you know what it's like once the ECU is back in the car.

Could be interested at that price, seems a damn sight more reasonable than the previous pricing!

I take it this is the official Lotus re-map and not the Sinclairs one. Lotus have dropped their price to match ?

ECU returned back from Chris Neils. Installed with no MIL's (I have Hurricane Induction).

Managed to take car out for a little run before the snow came!! Was able to floor it a few times despite the heavy traffic (probably scaring a few people looking in their rear view mirrors  )

Overall the acceleration seams much smoother throughout the rev range with the pre cam change dip eliminated. Only mild shove at 5,700. The aural change is still very much noticeable on cam changeover (especially with induction :thumbsup ). Doubtful there is any power gain. Can't wait to have 'proper' drive once things dry up a bit!

IMHO this is how the car should have left the factory in the first place.

Thanks for feedback Mike. Looking forward to getting mines back aswell, which should be sometime towards the end of next week. I feel a bit jealous :)

Need to take the car to Edinburgh on Saturday as the heating system is gubbed. Will be driving from west coast so by the time I get there I think I will have frostbite on my nuts !! :(

I wonder why the cars don't leave the factory this way...

My personal/cynical thought on why the cam change is at 6,200 is that there is a much more noticeable shove due to the power dip before the second cam comes in, thus giving it more of a wow factor. May help sell more cars

Good luck with getting your heating fixed.

Hope you like the ECU upgrade. I may get out on Saturday to explore the new power delivery a bit more :D

Agree, very likely to be the "Yo, Mah VTEC Just Kicked in Foo'!" effect. It's the single thing that p*sses me off most about Elaine's car now - otherwise, a bloody fast bus on the right road, just hate having to constantly hover by the redline to achieve it.

The reasoning behind the standard cam change point is solely down to Euro4 emissions regulations. No other reason.

Finally got my car back the other week after getting the heater probs fixed, along with the upgraded ECU.

I'd say it makes a difference. The car feels much more lively, my immediate reaction was "f'*in hell" once I got some clear road. Although this could just be in my head after driving the boring rx8 for 4 weeks :) . The annoying lag before the psychotic cam changeover kicks in has gone. Instead, its much more smoother onto the cam changeover a bit earlier. Car is much more fun to drive.

Also, I am getting about an extra 20-30 miles out of a full tank of fuel. My fuel light usually comes on after I have covered about 250-260 miles. But since the ECU upgrade it comes on at 280ish. Maybe due to fact I'm spending more time in 4th gear vs 3rd gear (not sure). Could prob squeeze more out if I turned the ac off and drove around like a grandpa :)

I would definitely recommend getting the upgrade. Get in touch with Craig at MMC. He can offer good prices.
