Blaupunkt iPhone kit - any good?
I'm thinking of getting one of these for the DAB54. It'll allow hands free use and voice control of the iPhone, which are fine but the useful bit for me will be that it allows wireless streaming of tracks and playlists over Bluetooth.
Anyone know if they're much use in an Elise and if bluespot is the cheapest place to find one?

Absolutely no experience or knowledge of these whatsoever, but it does say this;
Not compatible with Blaupunkt factory-fitted radios or Apple iPhone

That could have been before v3.0 software on the iPhone...I've got my iPhone3g connecting up via Bluetooth to my JVC unit...Handsfree and Audio Streaming.Stevoraith wrote:Absolutely no experience or knowledge of these whatsoever, but it does say this;

Play\Pause works, as does answering calls. Track skip, etc, still not functional though.
I'd still be looking for confirmation that this unit is compatible though.

PS.
A friend has the newer iPhone3gS and hasn't been able to get his streaming audio...so definately worth investigating.

Not relevant to the original question but my iPhone worked better with the OEM bluetooth in my BMW before I upgraded to software version 3.0.
Now if someone calls me their name doesn't come up on the screen like it did before. Calls still work ok right enough but it's annoying!

Sounds like modern technology to me, You've updated your iphone, you obviously need to change your car tooStevoraith wrote:Not relevant to the original question but my iPhone worked better with the OEM bluetooth in my BMW before I upgraded to software version 3.0.

I can't even hear my phone with a bluetooth handsfree kit in the Elise, surely these have to have a mic mounted somewhere and would just lead to the person on the other end of the call being deafened by engine/road noise?

Can't vouch for this particular kit but I have the Blaupunkt iPod kit in the Elise which emulates the radio's CD changer functionality - this kit will more than likely do the same. While it works most of the time i.e. it plays and charges the iPod, it is prone to crashing the iPod and the radio from time to time - usually when you have just pulled onto the motorway at the start of a long journey
. The only way round this seems to be to a soft reboot of the iPod and removing the power from the back of the radio head unit by pulling it out the dash using the metal pins which is a pain in the ar$e to be honest. Its a neat install solution in that all the cables are hidden but I can't help but thinking the simple (and much cheaper) Blaupunkt AUX in kit coupled with an iPod 12v charger would be less hassle in the long run.
I'm with Chris (Corranga) on the road / engine noise issue. I think you might find the mic will unfortunately pick up too much background noise to make a proper conversation possible, especially with the roof down.
Cheers,
John

I had the simple plug-in lead to charge and play i-pod through the Blaupunkt head unit. Didn't display track details or give you functionality on the head unit, but worked a treat for £15.
Recently changed to an Alpine CDE 104BTi, which includes Bluetooth, & lead for i-phone with charging and control of functions through the head unit. I have found that the mic ( wired in to top of dash) is no problem at all and doesn't pick up background noise, although the Europa is quieter then Elise.
