S2000...(NLC)

Post by Fluoxetine » Fri Sep 04, 2009 7:11 pm

A friend bought one of these from a seller on PH a few weeks ago, and brought it round last night so that I could have a drive...

...It's actually a very impressive piece of kit - I was quite surprised - Loved the gearchange, the insane nature of the VTEC, the 9k rev limit...It even steered rather well, with a fairly quick rack...

Only issue I can see, is that the desire to keep it in the VTEC zone all the time could lead to license losing situations...

Imagine an Elise would see one off on track, but it's still a rather nice road car... :thumbsup

I went from an Elise to one of these this year. Great all round car but doesn't offer anywhere near the same driving experience.

I'll admit the VTEC is awesome and with the roof down just urges you to keep pushing through the gears, fantastic sound :D your right when you say the VTEC is a potential licence loser!

I have the Rev4 model which I believe is "04" onwards and it has suspension tweaks etc ...I think earlier models were too tale happy and would snap without much warning (a lot of damaged/repaired ones out there) later models do handle well although I feel the car unbalanced when cornering at higher speed. The gearbox is fantastic, coupled with that VTEC.

I will be keeping it until next year, then on the hunt for an 05/06 mdl Exige :thumbsup

Can't wait......

This is essentially the same car as my brother bought recently.

Lovely.

I agree it's a great drive, although I'd need a bit of getting used to it after the Elise's torquey, effortless delivery :-)

Nice motor :thumbsup

A couple of things to watch out for -

I'm sure he knows it's a pre MY04 model which has had the MY04> 17" alloys fitted (looks like the may have been refurbed as the spokes should be diamond cut). As mentioned above that means it's not got the new suspension set up so a good Geo check would be advisable.

Mention s2ki.co.uk to him if he hasn't already been there - some great hints and tips and the new owner guide is a must read - especially the part re protecting the roof - a small investment of £8.00 for a couple of neoprene chain guards for the roof mechanism elbow joints can save a very expensive roof repair!

As for the driving experience - I would agree with the above - not quite as involved as an Elise and doesn't inspire the same confidence in handling straight away. However once you learn how to work the gearbox/engine and get used to the passive RWS it is a joy to drive. In may ways the VTEC helps the way I use the car as it is a daily commuter as well as a weekend toy - so has a dual personality. In the wet - take it easy and use the "push to pass" revs carefully! Driven smoothly though it is still a good drive in damp conditions.

Oh yes - one more thing - oil - keep a top up in the boot and a nice wee funnel - it WILL be needed!

Cheers

Ally
