Scottish Help Please.... Planing a weekend in the Highlands.
A friend of has said that I should steer well clear of the A82 from Glasgow to Fort William because it becomes a bit of a car park on a bank holiday weekend..
He has suggested going via:
Out of Glasgow on A82 to Dumbarton, Come off on to A814 to Hewlensburgh / Arrochar.
A83 to Inveraray /Lochgilphead.
A816 north to Kilmartin & Oban.
Then up to Fort William.
or as an other option. Get the Ferry from Oban to Tobermory,
Stay in Tobermory overnight, quick tour around the Mull and then get on the Ferry at Fishnish Point to Lochaline.
A884 through Gleann Geal.
A861 along the side of Loch Linnhe to Kinlocheil and in the A830 to fort Willaim and pick up on Day 1's route...
Is this a better option on a Friday?
Is there any issues like getting an Exige on the ferries without loosing the splitter?
What sort of money would the ferries cost? Are they Expensive?

Try the Ullapool inn. Food looked good. Avoid the Royal Ullapool at all costs (unless you also go on saga tours
)
Day 2. There is a pie shop at LochInver

Monday is not an official Scottish Bank holiday (though many banks will be closed) so the roads might not be that bad at all. Nothing else around here is closed on Monday, including all the schools.
By the way the section from GARELOCHHEAD (just after Faslane) to ARROCHAR on the A814 is one of my all time favourite roads. Ten miles of a twisty, narrow, roller coaster road will greet you. It is easily possible to get your car airborne on this road. The only problem is that the steering dosn't work then, so try and land before a corner
When I was based at Falsane we used to go back and forth up it on motorbikes and occasional hire cars and it was great fun. Even better in the dark as you could use more of the road easier.
Of course another great favourite of Scottish Elise drivers is the Dukes Pass which runs between Aberfoyle and Callander on the A821. You might well be able to fit this in on your homeward journey.

Hopefully I won't have any problems, but if I do are there any Lotus specialists ect?
I know that there is the Murray Motor company in Glasgow & Edinburgh. Is there any others like independants ect?
Just incase I should get a puncture and need to get some yoko 48s where are the best places to go? if any?
Thanks for all your help and advice.... Setting off early tomorrow.... Can't wait.

Thankyou to everyone who offered me advice on places to go and see and what to do if I get a problem while up in the highlands..
I must say that I had a wonderful time while in Scotland.. We had a fair bit of rain while up there, but the good thing was it kept a lot of people off the road.
Heading into Glasgow we followed a Yellow S2 Exige (only the 2nd time I have ever seen another S2 Exige on the road) & Heading up to Castle Eilean Doran on the A87 through Five Sister did some of the distance with an Elise S2 111S? in Storm Titanium. Hi to both of you who ever you was, hope you had a good time as well.
I must say the roads was fantastic, through the most spectacular scenery, clear most of the time and hardly a speed camera to be seen.
For those who are interested here's our route:
Day 1: We took the route: Motorway to Glasgow, crossed the bridge and stuck to the West Coast Road stopping at Inveraray Castle, on to Oban for the first night, at Barcaldine House, Barcaldine. ( http://www.barcaldinehousehotel.com ). We ate at a nice little fish restaurant in the quay in Oban.
Day 2: Up to Fort William taking in Portnacorish Castle & Inverlochy Castle, up to Spean Bridge, Invergarry, through the Five Sister and on to Dornie to see Castle Eilean Doran. (Well worth a look for anyone who has never been and very cheap entrance fee.
Then up and around the coast road over Bealach Na Ba (Through the Clouds) to Apple cross, around the head land, past Torridon, to Kinlockewe, Around the coast road (AA832) and up the A835 to Ullapool. Stayed in a nice little B&B and had and evening meal in a bistro on the sea front. Great meal and big portions.
Day 3: Up A835 to Ledmore Junction and through the mountains on the A837 to Inveran, Ardgay, Alness, Iverness, and down the A82 on the Banks of lock Ness. Stopped at Urquhart Castle for a look, (More Expensive than Castle Eilean Doran and it was just a set of ruins, so we skipped going in). Did we miss anything much?
Carried on back down the A82 to Fort William, over the Black Mountains to Crianlarich. left on to A85 to Kilmanhog, right on the A821 through Aberfoyle to the A811. What a great peace of twisty road. (thanks for that one)..
Down to Glasgow and onto Gourock where we stayed in the 14th century tower house castle, Castle Levan. This was well worth the money for and very cheap. Great hosts as well. ( http://www.castle-levan.co.uk ).
That night we went in to the town and had a curry.
Day 4: Around the coast road to Kilmarnock, then south on the A76 Dumfries, the M6 south and home.
If anyone wants I can post some pictures... (How do I do that? can't see it in the FAQs section)
(Thanks Kenny for your aunts B&B details but sadly it didn't fall into a conveniant location to the route we took in the end.)

To post piccies, they need to be hosted on the net somewhere. http://www.photobucket.com is good, that's where I host mine. It then gives you some code under each piccie that you can use to link directly to it (ie. display it in the thread)

Glad you had a good time and hope some of the help you got on here and the Yahoo group was useful.
