*Warning - damaged Lotus content!*

Post by jj » Mon Jun 27, 2005 5:45 pm

10 - 15mph into a corsa coming in t`other direction resulted in this mess yesterday.

Image

It was a genuine accident, just glad it was at such low speed to only demolish the clam. Although I am surprised at how brittle it is once knocked. Damage to corsa was laughable, a wee black strip of plastic knocked off and that was it....

I asked the same question on the yahoo group, but got no reply, but if anyone knows of a front clam that may be of use to me please let me know. Also a good but well priced bodyshop in Scotland somewhere!

Cheers,

JJ

Bad luck :(
I wondered what you'd done when I saw your post on the Yahoo group.
Dunno where you'll get a new clam from other than Lotus. There's sometimes clams on Ebay, not sure what they go for though.

I assume you'd rather it wasn't an insurance claim or you wouldn't be asking about clams would you?

Not going to claim on insurance. I think its probably 50 / 50 on what would cost more - paying my excess and then taking a hit at insurance renewal time, or not claiming, not losing all my NCB and fixing it myself.

If I claimed on my insurance, I would have problems come next summer when I hope to change, and the extra cost on the insurance might push car no 3 that wee bit further away.....

It was a blind corner on a single track road I know very well. Bad timing more than anything...

What back road was it on mate ?

Think you're doing the right thing regards insurance would probably be a 50/50 because of the type of road you were on.

Get saving clams are close to 1k unpainted and not fitted :(

Try seloc.org mate and possibly pistonheads.com

Theres one for sale on seloc.org the now mate been repaired before it's nautilus blue, £150quid

Taken from the seloc site

"I had to buy a brand new clam because Miles and Ian at Fibreglass Services wouldn't work on my old clam because it had filler in it.

It's Nautilus blue and is badly stone chipped on one corner where it wasn't re-sprayed correctly last time I had it fixed.

It has been fixed twice but is complete - I'll sell it for a £150. It should do someone a turn. It's currently with Ian and Miles down at Fibreglass Services (nr. Arundel, West Sussex).

Call Jeremy 07930 640628 - anyone's welcome to go down and take a look. Sold as seen. "

It was the road form Houston to Kilmacolm, the one that goes through Kilmacolm Golf Club. Its a road I know very well, so was being extra careful, but it seems you cant be too careful.

I called fibreglass services about that clam on Monday actually, but it sounds in a worse state than the advert lets on.

More importantly, does anyone have any bodyshop reccommendations in the Glasgow area please?

Cheers,

JJ

I can get them brand new for less than half that. Fitting is a doddle, about an hour and a half eh Shug? ;-)

PM / email me if interested. FYI - I used to own Lotus Ecosse so contacts can still be used ;-)
