Smash goes the S2000

Came in this morning to an e-mail from a pal, see below. Some idiot came out of a side street at 20 or 30 and hit him in the rear driver side quarter. From memory his S2000 has about 25k on it and is about 3 years old. Seems to me that there may be a chaise twist if they are having that much trouble getting it to balance out. Re the sale, he is thinking that he can sue for the drop in the second hand value, which I think is right, but will need evidence of the value before crash and after. I was going to advise that he get in touch with one of the dealerships which advertise “cars wantedâ€

Sounds like the chassis is bent.... surprised they won't write it off if that's the case - get an independant to check for striaightness...

'tis a relevant claim, but will need to prove it by expert evidence as he says - get a consultant engineer to look at the damage

Just followed the link which answers my question. It was the same decision which I had identified. Just so happens that the S2000 belongs to a member of faculty.

As Shug says if the chassis can't be sorted it should be a write off I would have thought?

happens to me a lot.... :oops:

I was a little surprised that if the owner of the S2000 is a member of the lerned faculty, he wouldn't know/have access to all the information he needs on the subject. However, if I have misinterpreted (again common), please put me right.

OK, got ya. I told him he would probably have a loss even after it was fixed and suggested that he might have a claim, he went off and had a wee look at the authorities and concluded that he did. He was really asking about the practicalities of a claim, i.e. how he could put a figure on it and who he could get to spk to the figure.

He was also a little confused by the dealer having trouble with getting it balanced and how he could sell the car since the dealer has indicated that he does not want it. I have told him to get on to the insurers and convince the to write it off, so solving most of the problems. If not we will have to get a report on the loss.

Insurers (his) should organise an Engineers report into the diminuition.

I would try and have it written off...
