Good start

Post by Sassy » Wed Mar 15, 2006 10:29 am

Day seven in the Lotus Exige Club and Sassy's having problems...

The passenger door isn't catching on the lock when you close it, and my rear number plate has gone walkies.

Come back Mini, all is forgiven!*

* I don't really mean this.

HI Sassy

Have you checked the lock bar (the thing the lock locks on to) that is attached to the car (not the door)? That came loose on mine and the door refused to lock.

Let me know if this makes sense :D

Yup makes sense - I'll have a look at it later, but still going to get MMC to look at it when they do the oil change in about 150 miles.

Bit annoying, and my dad just shook his head basically saying told you so! But the positives have so far way more than outweighed the negatives.

More annoyed about the plate actually, as I hope it's not going to be a regualr occurence. It either fell off, which is fine, or someone half inched it, which is not good as the car lies on my road all day which is a popular route for schoolkids every day. Not that I'm accusing the youth of today...

Sassy

I had a problem with the passenger door on my 14 day old elise. The button kept getting stuck in so the door wouldnt stay closed - popped passed MMC yesterday and they said it was quite a common problem - wee bit of lubrication to the back of the lock seems to have sorted it out.

There's always something that needs sorted as they get run in.

Mine (111r) just turned 20k miles and its feeling more sorted than ever and the toyota engine is getting sweeter all the time :D

Good luck getting it sorted

you dont really want a number plate at all. Remember and take the front one off and crack it off a kerb. then stick it in the boot and forget about it. :D

you might get trouble from the old bill if you dont have a rear plate, but you can get away with no front plate. just tell them it got knocked off on a kerb and you are waiting for a part from lotus to put it back on securely. (or any story you fancy- thats mine but never had to use it)

Isn't that speed camera-tastic?

Though pretty sure they could trace me quite easily.

it certainly is. Plod (around my way anyway) dont seem bothered by no front plate, which means SPECS and TRUVELO camera's dont work. Neither do the sneaky bar stewards in the scamera vans on the bridges of motorways or in layby's.

the only ones that catch you are gatso's and plod in his traffic car, chasing you doen the road at 155mph

My locks had to be replaced after the drivers door lock failed completely (1 month old Exige at the time) but I thought they had changed suppliers...

Rear no. plate is on with sticky pads I think - you could ask MMC to drill the rear panel, put a nutsert in and attach with screws (I think you get no tamper ones if nicking it is going to be a problem).

It sounds like no front plate is OK for Neil but if you venture to Aberdeen or Inverness then make sure you have one. You WILL get stopped and fined £30. Even if you have one and it's a wee bit small, dodgy font or just without a postcode on it.
Exige looks naf without front plate anyway as it has a plinth for it on the splitter.

Minor glitches, it's just 'character'... :D

Cheers,
Ali

My rear number plate was put on squint but i cant be bothered fixing it. Might be an idea to get it drilled.

You will soon forget the niggles when you are out on runs/on track etc!
